Bomber Jacket Outfit of the Day

Fashion, Lifestyle, simplicity, Slow Fashion, style, Uncategorized

Hey, you guys welcome back to Fashion Fridays. So I’m going to keep this post pretty quick because I let time get away from me today and I still have quite a bit to do before my trip to Spain and I want to be done with all of the errand running by the end of this weekend.

So let’s jump right into this outfit of the day post! Once again, I was in Georgetown and wanted to take pictures of my super casual outfit. Honestly, I think the majority of my outfits are pretty casual, but that’s kind of how I like it.I wore my third favorite pair of jeans from American Eagle and paired it with a cropped tank top because it got really hot that afternoon. Although, I was still pretty hot because I was in black and dark wash jeans so that didn’t help all too much.

However, the main attraction of this outfit is the bomber jacket that I purchased from Boohoo. I’m the worst because I am definitely not supposed to be buying fast fashion, but this was one of those times I had to suck it up. I had to suck it up because it’s kind of perfect for days that start off really cool and end up super hot and then end up cool by nightfall.

IMG_7806

The material of the jacket is pretty thin, but it’s also pretty decent quality considering I only paid $10 for it. Something I want to bring up in a post sometime soon is mixing fast fashion with slow fashion because it is pretty doable if you know what you’re trying to achieve. I also have to admit that Boohoo tends to have some pretty decent quality items for very cheap.

IMG_7801

Anyway, I finished off the outfit with my favorite black and white vans and went on about my day. Also, the sunglasses that I feel like have been in all of my outfits are Quay’s! Alright, I have to go now! Thanks for reading!

OOTD: Happy Autumnal Equinox

Beauty, Fashion, Hair Care, Lifestyle, Minimalism, simplicity, Slow Fashion, style, Uncategorized

Happy Autumnal Equinox everyone! You all should know by now that I’m happy because this means the hot gross weather will soon be gone! Seriously, I’m getting pretty tired of sweating in places I’d rather not be sweating!

Anywho, welcome back to Fashion Fridays! It seems like it’s been weeks since I’ve posted an outfit of the day but it’s only been just one week. It seems the last few times I have worn a picture worthy outfit I’ve been in Georgetown, D.C. I really love it there because it’s so cosmopolitan, but also so historic. If you ever find yourself in the Washington, D.C. area then definitely visit Georgetown.

IMG_2162

Remember a few posts back when I was speaking of future purchases? Well, I got my hands on that perfect American Apparel tee dress. I’m pretty sure I’m going to be wearing it A LOT. I can wear it out dancing, to happy hour, or just to the coffee shop to chill or work. When I wore it to Georgetown two days ago, I was just working in the coffee shop, so I dressed it down.

IMG_9671

I paired it with some super old booties from Forever 21. I’m in need of some casual flat ankle booties or at least I will be. I can feel these boots starting to wear at the soles and that just doesn’t seem safe.

IMG_2550

I also paired the dress with a denim jacket from Levi’s…at least I started off that way. Of course around noon, it got pretty hot out and the jacket had to come off. It was even a little hot for the dress considering it is all black. I may have to pull this back out on a cooler or even cloudier day for sure.

Oh, and my curls are twisted up into cute little twists. I decided to do this one day because I was so sick of styling my hair. I also didn’t want to add extensions so this was a great happy medium for me. What do you all think?

That’s all for today! Check back Monday for a new post!

Shopping for Better Quality Clothing

Fashion, Lifestyle, simplicity, Slow Fashion, style

Hello there, I hope everyone had a good weekend! I know I’m a little late posting today, but I was accumulating some things for this post.

So yesterday I ran across this blog post that was about trendy fast fashion. I’m a huge comments reader unfortunately and saw a comment that said us consumers should shop a little more sustainably and buy better quality clothes. Now you all know I DEFINITELY agree with this statement and was rooting for this person. However, people started to disagree with this person, saying that not everyone can afford designer clothing. Funny thing is, nobody ever mentioned designer clothing and this wasn’t the first time I’ve seen something like that.

First and foremost, shopping for better quality clothing isn’t usually expensive…depending on what your definition of expensive is. Also, shopping at a non-fast fashion place doesn’t automatically mean designer clothing. There are so many mid-range stores that one can shop in! I just wanted to take some time and post some stores that can be shopped at that are alternatives to fast fashion. Some of these stores are not necessarily sustainable, but they do sell better quality clothing.

aeo

You guys know I love AE very very much. It’s the perfect place to find semi trendy clothing that’s decent quality and not overly expensive. These clothes will typically last you a good year to three years. They are almost always having a sale too!

lulus

I’m still a pretty new Lulu’s shopper. The majority of these clothes are not the best quality, but not the worst either. However, they have a MADE IN USA section and yes the quality is much better in my opinion. Lulu’s items may last up to maybe a year or two.

madewell-logo

Ok, so I’m aware that Madewell may not be SUPER affordable, but there are items that actually are affordable as well as sale items. There are trendier items in this store as well as your staples. Madewell items should last from 2-5 years.

&otherstories

I LOVE & Other Stories, but I wouldn’t call it affordable. To shop here…you may have to save a little to get just what you want. The quality of the clothing is pretty amazing in my opinion. When I do feel like splurging a little bit, this is my go to store. I personally think clothing from here could last a lifetime depending on the garment.

everlane logo.png

If you want complete transparency and affordability (give or take some garments) then this is the place to shop. There really aren’t many trendy items here, but I would recommend shopping here for staples. The quality is pretty decent, however, the fit can be a bit strange depending on the garment.

Of course, there are many other stores to shop from that offer affordable, better quality clothing such as Target, Gap, Banana Republic, Urban Outfitters (certain brands), Asos (certain brands), thrift stores, local boutiques, and small online boutiques.

So that’s my post for today. There are other stores that aren’t necessarily fast fashion but are still pretty affordable. You don’t have to break your bank to shop for better quality and/or sustainably. Anyway, thanks for reading…check back for my post on Wednesday.

Future Fall Transition Purchases

Fashion, Lifestyle, Slow Fashion, Uncategorized

Summer is beginning to wrap up and honestly, I couldn’t be any happier. As some of you know, I freaking adore fall so so much! I’ve never been much of a fan of summer because I honestly feel like I can focus…that and my makeup melts off of my face. I think I may have said that same exact line in a post this time last year.

However, it isn’t fall just yet! It’s that time where we start the transition into the cool weather. This time of year used to really irritate me because I hated having my fall outfit on only to be burning up later in the day or still in shorts and be freezing by nightfall.

Anywho, in the spring/summertime, I had a post of future purchases that I wanted to make. So today I’m going to do that again but for this fall transition time. Let’s just get right into it!

Ok so I have a love/hate relationship with bodysuits because at times they can be pretty uncomfortable but they’re super versatile. I figured if I get a nice soft bodysuit from American Eagle, it would be comfortable and versatile!

Screen Shot 2017-09-05 at 3.54.58 PM

I’m obsessed with sweater dresses and I really want another one. This isn’t really a transition piece, but for those colder days, they’re pretty perfect.

Screen Shot 2017-09-05 at 3.57.43 PM

I’ve been looking for the perfect tee dress for the longest. I can wear a tee dress all time but just style them differently. I was pretty sad when I found out American Apparel was closing down, but I recently found out that they’re just online now. From what I can tell they only have basics (like they used to) but I noticed this perfect tee dress and I’m pretty sure I’m getting it very soon.

Screen Shot 2017-09-05 at 4.01.35 PM

I’m still trying to figure out why I don’t have black jeans. I bought some last year and they had this horrible smell which was probably the black dye that gives them their color. I couldn’t wear them for more than an hour and had to get rid of them. I happen to know that BDG jeans from Urban Outfitters DON’T have this horrible dye smell…so I think this will also be a for sure purchase as well.

Screen Shot 2017-09-05 at 4.03.44 PM

Denim skirts have made a serious comeback and I’m here for it. At first, I wasn’t sure, but the way they can be styled now is way better than before. I may have to turn some old jeans into a skirt here soon…

Screen Shot 2017-09-05 at 3.55.54 PM

So that’s all the clothing purchases I want to make for the transitioning weather! I may make another list for fall/winter time. That’s it for today! Thanks for reading as always!

The Pop & Suki Camera Bag

Beauty, Fashion, Lifestyle, simplicity, Slow Fashion, style

Ok, so I never thought I’d be writing a post about a bag…like a whole post about a bag! For my birthday, my best friend got me the Pop & Suki camera bag which I have wanted for almost a year now. I was pretty close to purchasing it myself many times, but I would always put it off for something else. A couple of months ago I decided that I didn’t like the gold detailing and would prefer silver detailing instead. As soon as I saw it in person I fell in love ALL over again!

fullsizeoutput_201

Let me just say…pictures do not do this bag justice at all. If you’re on the fence about getting this bag, just do it because it is actually the coolest bag ever! I love that Pop & Suki sells different straps so that you can wear it as a fanny pack, a backpack or even a crossbody bag. They also sell accessories that you can personalize, such as key chains or charms.

IMG_6449

The quality is pretty great considering the price of the bag. The bag comes with a dust bag that comes in a box. The bag also already comes with a crossbody strap. At first, it seems like a pretty small bag, but it fits all of your essentials…as long as you don’t have big essentials.

fullsizeoutput_1fb

The personalization aspect of the company is what really won me over. Well, that and the way you can interchange the straps or add on charms and the such.

Throughout the week, I like to take the strap off and put it in my bigger tote bag so that my smaller things don’t get lost at the bottom of my bigger bag. I know it’s just like any ‘ol crossbody bag, but for some reason, there’s a certain pizzaz about this one. I think it might be the brand essence that takes this bag over the edge…the whole accessorizing an accessory aspect.

IMG_6490

The last and most obvious thing is that this bag is INCREDIBLY cute and goes with pretty much any outfit. The color my friend got for me is perfect…lavendar with pink undertones. The gold detailing doesn’t even bother me whatsoever!

I checked out the website earlier today and they have card holder…which I may have to get my hands on. Pop & Suki is really onto something and I’m in love with the brand so much!

Okay, that’s all today/tonight. Thanks for reading!

NO More Summer Capsule Wardrobes

Fashion, Lifestyle, Minimalism, Slow Fashion, style

Ok, so I didn’t really do a capsule wardrobe this summer. For some reason, summer comes around and I just can’t figure out how to capsule my clothing. I spoke about this in a post earlier this season and I wanted to fix my summer wardrobe. However, I never got around to it because I just really don’t like the hot weather like that and it just seemed way too tedious.

I did manage to fit some wins in though. I now know that I can pretty much wear denim or woven shorts and a simple top along with a flowy kimono and look pretty fabulous.

FullSizeRender.jpg

And when going out I can throw on a bralette with a mesh top and be good to go! I guess I got caught up on trying not to look too boring that I forgot that kimonos, belts, chokers, and makeup can take an outfit that’s a 5 and turn it into a 10.

FullSizeRender-1

So I’ve kind of decided that I probably won’t be doing a capsule in the summer months anymore because 1. It just gives me a headache thinking about it for some odd reason. 2. I tend to gravitate towards anything that’s going to be comfortable, breathable, and stylish…meaning I may end up defeating the purpose of a capsule and purchasing new items.

Luckily I do buy pretty decent quality items in the summer so I will have them for a pretty long time and have no plans of getting rid of anything. SO now that I’ve seemed to figure out my (non) issue about summer, I can finally start thinking about fall. I have already started purchasing fall items because it’s my favorite and most of the fall stuff is on sale right now! I can’t wait to start photographing fall outfits for you guys! Look out for that in the next month or so!

Thanks for reading as always.

Good Hair Day and OOTD

Fashion, Hair Care, Lifestyle, Natural, simplicity, Slow Fashion, style

It seems like I’m always trying to get my hair to do right the majority of the time. Most of the time it sits just fine on top my cute little head until about Day 4. At that point, it gets dry, tangled and dull looking.

I’m aware that all I need to do is add moisture back, which I typically do but for some reason, it just never truly gets moisturized. So, I’m not going to make this all long and drawn out, but last night I did an Ayurveda oil pre-poo and then I conditioned just like normal. When I was drying my hair it was soaking wet and continued to drip water as I was braiding it….this never EVER happens. My hair is usually dry within 15 minutes after washing. This is when I realized that my hair wasn’t retaining moisture like it should be and was literally sucking up any moisture that it possibly could. I will expand on the Ayurveda world in another blog post.

IMG_6196

Anyway, this is my hair (spot the tiny feather) today as well as my outfit of the day. These Madewell shorts are everything to me. I was getting real sick of denim shorts riding up in the hot, humid weather.

IMG_6187-1

They’re not too loose but not too tight and they sit perfectly just below my natural waist. I love how lightweight the cotton/viscose fabric is and it’s just great to wear in this hot summer weather.

FullSizeRender-4

The coolest part is that the shorts have these ties on the side that give the shorts a little more oomph. The only thing is, I wish these had pockets!! Pockets are always welcome in my wardrobe!

FullSizeRender-5

I paired the wonderful shorts with a bodysuit, which I did on a whim because I need to wash my white shirts. I actually like the look of the bodysuit almost better than a regular white tee. I think I may need a white bodysuit…

Well, that’s it for today. I promise I will give an update on the Ayurvedic hair treatments because that is something I NEED to talk about. Catch me on Wednesday for another post about something!

Mini Lulu’s Haul

Fashion, Lifestyle, simplicity, Slow Fashion, style

Sometime this month I have a trip planned to go to Miami! I’ll still be blogging, so don’t worry! I’m celebrating my dad’s birthday as well as going on a mini vacation. I am beyond excited because I’ve never been to Miami before and I hear (and see) that it’s pretty great.

When I found out that these were the plans, my inner fashionista came out to play and damn near ruined my slow fashion journey. Don’t worry, I didn’t go out and buy a bunch of dresses, crop tops and shorts…but I did buy SOME items.

Since I am going on a little vacation and also plan to go on another one later this year, I decided to shop at Lulu’s. Lulu’s has some amazing pieces that are trendy(ish) and stylish. I’d consider shopping there for other pieces throughout the year as well.

I ordered three items that I can wear part of the year and are just my style of course! I bought two dresses and a romper that are amazing summer pieces AND vacation pieces.

The first one is this cute chambray like dress that has a triangle bodice and an empire waist. Normally I don’t really like empire waist garments, but this is a very flattering dress I must say! It’s on the shorter side and it’s backless, but hey, I’m going to MIAMI TRICK!

The next garment is a romper that has these navy blue striated vertical stripes. I adore stripes of all kind so this was a must-have! This is another backless piece that I think is the most stylish out of them all. I would pair this with some brown espadrille wedges and go to a nice lunch.

IMG_3635

Of course, I saved the best for last – a cute t-shirt like dress that I know I’m going to live in the majority of the summer. The best part about this dress is that it’s made in the USA! Technically, it’s slow fashion or at least ethical fashion! YAY! Lulu’s has a ton of items that are made in the USA – just type it in their search bar and you’ll see! This is a simple blue dress that’s sexy yet casual and has a kind of a racerback thing going on.

Those are all the pieces I purchased – now all I need is a swimsuit and I’m set! Should I go for a cute little one piece number?

I don’t know if you noticed but all the items are blue or have blue on them and that was all by accident! I guess I like blue for the summer!

Thanks for reading!!!

Madewell Muscle Tees!

Fashion, Lifestyle, Minimalism, simplicity, Slow Fashion, style

When I truly like something I hold onto it and cherish it for as long as I can. I always try to do the same thing when I’m shopping. I try my best to find items that I truly love and will hold onto for as long as possible. With all the constantly changing trends and enticing fast fashion stores, this can be extremely difficult. This is why I really like shopping at Madewell and why it has become one of my go-to fashion stores.

Even though Madewell does tend to have pretty trendy items, there’s always this one section in the store that I feel that calls out to me. Okay technically it’s not a section but the items I’ve always grabbed are in the same vicinity to each other. It’s where they sell all of their basics – t-shirts, muscle tees, tanks, and even cropped tops.

IMG_3614

I think you all know I’ve got heart eye emojis for Madewell’s Whisper Cotton muscle tees. I’m pretty much obsessed with my light olive green one that I wear non-stop. So, I took it upon myself to buy two more…they were 2 for $30 so why not?

I purchased a white and a gray muscle tee. I love muscle tees, to begin with, but for some reason, I really love this style. I’m pretty sure I like it so much because it makes “the girls” look great (lol.)

Another reason is that these tees can go with pretty much anything and can also be layered. I foresee many outfit possibilities with these babies. I’d say this was a great purchase because I know that I’ll wear them without a second thought.

IMG_3618

Before I go, I’d like to reiterate for those who don’t know that I am still on my slow fashion journey and would like to have a slow wardrobe along with a capsule wardrobe. Every time I make a purchase I usually replace at least two items that I know I probably won’t wear again or as much.

That’s all for today and this week. Thanks for reading as always my lovely readers. Until next week.

Capsule Wardrobe Time!

Fashion, Lifestyle, Minimalism, simplicity, Slow Fashion

So, it’s about that time. Capsule wardrobe time! This is my third year doing a capsule wardrobe so I’m basically a pro now *curly hair flip.* Initially, I started doing a capsule because I wanted to be more minimal, but now I do it for the simplicity and ease of it all.

Normally I drag my feet especially in the Spring months to change out the clothing in my wardrobe. I’m not at all a fan of the warmer months because I ADORE Fall and Winter. This Spring I’m actually looking forward to compiling my capsule wardrobe because I am going about it a little differently this time around.

As you know I am doing my own slow fashion challenge to purchase more ethical and better quality clothing. Well, one of the cool things about slow fashion is that you can, for the most part, wear the clothes year around. Basically, there is no need for seasonal clothing anymore…give or take a few items that are just must have pieces.

Unfortunately, I don’t live in California and can’t get away with wearing the same cropped sweater I wore in Fall in the Summer. Here on the east coast while it can get pretty cold…it can get pretty damn hot! In fact, when summer comes rolling around I’m a back out, cropped tank, bralette, no sleeves wearing fiend. In other words…I’m almost naked and so is everyone else because it really gets that hot with no relief.

Anyway, I’m only just figuring out the logistics of how this No Seasonal, Slow Fashion clothing thing is going to work. So far, I pulled out many of my “warm weather” clothes and already threw a good portion of them in the “get rid of” pile that sits in the middle of my room. It’s kind of funny how much your style can change in less than a year.

I’m finding that most of what I wore in the Fall I can definitely wear in the Spring and even the Summer. Of course jeans, (certain) dresses, white tees, (faux) silk tanks and the such are year-round staples, but even a chambray shirt, a sleeveless turtleneck, and a long sleeve fitted crop top can be worn all year.

Obviously, in the harsher months (Summer and Winter) you’re just going to want to wear clothing that suits the season. However, there are those days that are mild and can be worked with. Also, this does not mean that I am not shopping anymore! I will most likely replace something every time I purchase a new item. I am still replacing many of my fast fashion clothing with better quality slow fashion clothing as well as clothing that better suits my style.

One thing I will say is that I have zero colors for Spring. Everything right now is black, gray or olive green. So, when I do shop, I’ll probably purchase some things that have a little color.

So, I know this was a really long post, my capsule wardrobe posts usually are though. Thanks for reading regardless!
