NO More Summer Capsule Wardrobes

Ok, so I didn’t really do a capsule wardrobe this summer. For some reason, summer comes around and I just can’t figure out how to capsule my clothing. I spoke about this in a post earlier this season and I wanted to fix my summer wardrobe. However, I never got around to it because I just really don’t like the hot weather like that and it just seemed way too tedious.

I did manage to fit some wins in though. I now know that I can pretty much wear denim or woven shorts and a simple top along with a flowy kimono and look pretty fabulous.

And when going out I can throw on a bralette with a mesh top and be good to go! I guess I got caught up on trying not to look too boring that I forgot that kimonos, belts, chokers, and makeup can take an outfit that’s a 5 and turn it into a 10.

So I’ve kind of decided that I probably won’t be doing a capsule in the summer months anymore because 1. It just gives me a headache thinking about it for some odd reason. 2. I tend to gravitate towards anything that’s going to be comfortable, breathable, and stylish…meaning I may end up defeating the purpose of a capsule and purchasing new items.

Luckily I do buy pretty decent quality items in the summer so I will have them for a pretty long time and have no plans of getting rid of anything. SO now that I’ve seemed to figure out my (non) issue about summer, I can finally start thinking about fall. I have already started purchasing fall items because it’s my favorite and most of the fall stuff is on sale right now! I can’t wait to start photographing fall outfits for you guys! Look out for that in the next month or so!

Thanks for reading as always.

Good Hair Day and OOTD

It seems like I’m always trying to get my hair to do right the majority of the time. Most of the time it sits just fine on top my cute little head until about Day 4. At that point, it gets dry, tangled and dull looking.

I’m aware that all I need to do is add moisture back, which I typically do but for some reason, it just never truly gets moisturized. So, I’m not going to make this all long and drawn out, but last night I did an Ayurveda oil pre-poo and then I conditioned just like normal. When I was drying my hair it was soaking wet and continued to drip water as I was braiding it….this never EVER happens. My hair is usually dry within 15 minutes after washing. This is when I realized that my hair wasn’t retaining moisture like it should be and was literally sucking up any moisture that it possibly could. I will expand on the Ayurveda world in another blog post.

Anyway, this is my hair (spot the tiny feather) today as well as my outfit of the day. These Madewell shorts are everything to me. I was getting real sick of denim shorts riding up in the hot, humid weather.

IMG_6187-1

They’re not too loose but not too tight and they sit perfectly just below my natural waist. I love how lightweight the cotton/viscose fabric is and it’s just great to wear in this hot summer weather.

The coolest part is that the shorts have these ties on the side that give the shorts a little more oomph. The only thing is, I wish these had pockets!! Pockets are always welcome in my wardrobe!

I paired the wonderful shorts with a bodysuit, which I did on a whim because I need to wash my white shirts. I actually like the look of the bodysuit almost better than a regular white tee. I think I may need a white bodysuit…

Well, that’s it for today. I promise I will give an update on the Ayurvedic hair treatments because that is something I NEED to talk about. Catch me on Wednesday for another post about something!

Mini Lulu’s Haul

Sometime this month I have a trip planned to go to Miami! I’ll still be blogging, so don’t worry! I’m celebrating my dad’s birthday as well as going on a mini vacation. I am beyond excited because I’ve never been to Miami before and I hear (and see) that it’s pretty great.

When I found out that these were the plans, my inner fashionista came out to play and damn near ruined my slow fashion journey. Don’t worry, I didn’t go out and buy a bunch of dresses, crop tops and shorts…but I did buy SOME items.

Since I am going on a little vacation and also plan to go on another one later this year, I decided to shop at Lulu’s. Lulu’s has some amazing pieces that are trendy(ish) and stylish. I’d consider shopping there for other pieces throughout the year as well.

I ordered three items that I can wear part of the year and are just my style of course! I bought two dresses and a romper that are amazing summer pieces AND vacation pieces.

The first one is this cute chambray like dress that has a triangle bodice and an empire waist. Normally I don’t really like empire waist garments, but this is a very flattering dress I must say! It’s on the shorter side and it’s backless, but hey, I’m going to MIAMI TRICK!

The next garment is a romper that has these navy blue striated vertical stripes. I adore stripes of all kind so this was a must-have! This is another backless piece that I think is the most stylish out of them all. I would pair this with some brown espadrille wedges and go to a nice lunch.

IMG_3635

Of course, I saved the best for last – a cute t-shirt like dress that I know I’m going to live in the majority of the summer. The best part about this dress is that it’s made in the USA! Technically, it’s slow fashion or at least ethical fashion! YAY! Lulu’s has a ton of items that are made in the USA – just type it in their search bar and you’ll see! This is a simple blue dress that’s sexy yet casual and has a kind of a racerback thing going on.

Those are all the pieces I purchased – now all I need is a swimsuit and I’m set! Should I go for a cute little one piece number?

I don’t know if you noticed but all the items are blue or have blue on them and that was all by accident! I guess I like blue for the summer!

Thanks for reading!!!

Madewell Muscle Tees!

When I truly like something I hold onto it and cherish it for as long as I can. I always try to do the same thing when I’m shopping. I try my best to find items that I truly love and will hold onto for as long as possible. With all the constantly changing trends and enticing fast fashion stores, this can be extremely difficult. This is why I really like shopping at Madewell and why it has become one of my go-to fashion stores.

Even though Madewell does tend to have pretty trendy items, there’s always this one section in the store that I feel that calls out to me. Okay technically it’s not a section but the items I’ve always grabbed are in the same vicinity to each other. It’s where they sell all of their basics – t-shirts, muscle tees, tanks, and even cropped tops.

IMG_3614

I think you all know I’ve got heart eye emojis for Madewell’s Whisper Cotton muscle tees. I’m pretty much obsessed with my light olive green one that I wear non-stop. So, I took it upon myself to buy two more…they were 2 for $30 so why not?

I purchased a white and a gray muscle tee. I love muscle tees, to begin with, but for some reason, I really love this style. I’m pretty sure I like it so much because it makes “the girls” look great (lol.)

Another reason is that these tees can go with pretty much anything and can also be layered. I foresee many outfit possibilities with these babies. I’d say this was a great purchase because I know that I’ll wear them without a second thought.

IMG_3618

Before I go, I’d like to reiterate for those who don’t know that I am still on my slow fashion journey and would like to have a slow wardrobe along with a capsule wardrobe. Every time I make a purchase I usually replace at least two items that I know I probably won’t wear again or as much.

That’s all for today and this week. Thanks for reading as always my lovely readers. Until next week.

Capsule Wardrobe Time!

So, it’s about that time. Capsule wardrobe time! This is my third year doing a capsule wardrobe so I’m basically a pro now *curly hair flip.* Initially, I started doing a capsule because I wanted to be more minimal, but now I do it for the simplicity and ease of it all.

Normally I drag my feet especially in the Spring months to change out the clothing in my wardrobe. I’m not at all a fan of the warmer months because I ADORE Fall and Winter. This Spring I’m actually looking forward to compiling my capsule wardrobe because I am going about it a little differently this time around.

As you know I am doing my own slow fashion challenge to purchase more ethical and better quality clothing. Well, one of the cool things about slow fashion is that you can, for the most part, wear the clothes year around. Basically, there is no need for seasonal clothing anymore…give or take a few items that are just must have pieces.

Unfortunately, I don’t live in California and can’t get away with wearing the same cropped sweater I wore in Fall in the Summer. Here on the east coast while it can get pretty cold…it can get pretty damn hot! In fact, when summer comes rolling around I’m a back out, cropped tank, bralette, no sleeves wearing fiend. In other words…I’m almost naked and so is everyone else because it really gets that hot with no relief.

Anyway, I’m only just figuring out the logistics of how this No Seasonal, Slow Fashion clothing thing is going to work. So far, I pulled out many of my “warm weather” clothes and already threw a good portion of them in the “get rid of” pile that sits in the middle of my room. It’s kind of funny how much your style can change in less than a year.

I’m finding that most of what I wore in the Fall I can definitely wear in the Spring and even the Summer. Of course jeans, (certain) dresses, white tees, (faux) silk tanks and the such are year-round staples, but even a chambray shirt, a sleeveless turtleneck, and a long sleeve fitted crop top can be worn all year.

Obviously, in the harsher months (Summer and Winter) you’re just going to want to wear clothing that suits the season. However, there are those days that are mild and can be worked with. Also, this does not mean that I am not shopping anymore! I will most likely replace something every time I purchase a new item. I am still replacing many of my fast fashion clothing with better quality slow fashion clothing as well as clothing that better suits my style.

One thing I will say is that I have zero colors for Spring. Everything right now is black, gray or olive green. So, when I do shop, I’ll probably purchase some things that have a little color.

So, I know this was a really long post, my capsule wardrobe posts usually are though. Thanks for reading regardless!

The Stylish, yet Cozy Outfit of the Day

It’s Monday again and it’s freezing! Today it’s supposedly 40 degrees but it feels about maybe 10 degrees! Tomorrow it’s supposed to snow too. Normally I’d be pretty damn upset that it was snowing in March, but considering we barely had a winter – I’m all for it! In fact, I don’t really mind bundling up in a blanket with some piping hot tea and a good book/movie.

Anyway, today I got out and stretched my legs a little bit before the big snow day here in the D.C area. If you want to see what all I did today, check out my Instagram @chelsiiohkay. I recently started posting on the Insta story and I think I might be addicted to it now. I didn’t really do too much but I would still love a follow! 🙂

Knowing that I was leaving the house in this cold weather, I wanted to take some pictures for the blog! So I slayed my makeup and put on a cozy, yet cute outfit.

You guys have seen this cropped top from & Other Stories for like the millionth time now. What can I say? I love this top! I paired it with my Lucky Jeans as always and my handy dandy Target boots.

IMG_5190

I have this love-hate relationship with my hair because it pretty much does what it wants to do. It somehow always looks messy and neat at the same time…maybe it’s mirroring my personality. If you were wondering the lip color…it’s the Sephora brand lip stain in Crimson Crush.

IMG_5165

Of course, I didn’t go out just with this top on because I would have frozen my ass off! No, I wore this amazing jacket that I’m borrowing/stealing from my beautiful, amazing mother. I borrow/steal all of her stuff because that’s what daughters do right? Anyway, she purchased an All Saints coat at the beginning of the year and it’s finally been cold enough (also my turn) to wear! I absolutely love everything in All Saints and would buy up the whole store if I could. I’m planning on saving up and buying one of my own jackets or dresses from there. I think this coat might needs it’s own blog post too!

FullSizeRender-2

So, that was my outfit for today! The next few days I’ll probably be trapped inside because of the snowstorm that is heading my way. Hopefully, I don’t get cabin fever, but I’m almost counting on it. Also, if you’re going to be stuck in the snowstorm as well, please stay safe out there!

Thanks for reading.

The Stylish, yet Cozy Outfit of the Day

Slow Fashion Challenge: Update

I broke a rule…well, really I bent a rule. My slow fashion challenge is going so much better than I expected, but nobody is perfect. I purchased some fast fashion items not too long ago. I didn’t exactly do it on purpose, though. Here are some of my offenses.

The first incident happened when I was going to a birthday party at an 80’s, 90’s club. I purchased this cheap dress off of Amazon which actually was in my parameters as far as the challenge went. I am allowed to purchase fast fashion for themed parties and technically it was a themed club. However, I also went to H&M for some tights and thigh high socks that same week. It was supposed to complete the outfit and what sense would it make to spend an arm and a leg on tights and socks? I also forgot to bring some earrings so I ended up buying some at H&M while I was already there. Two (three?) offenses in one week…I am out of control I know.

IMG_3236

The second incident happened a few weeks ago after my dentist appointment. I failed to mention it in my blog post about my relaxed outfit. That belt…is from H&M as well. Again…I couldn’t justify spending more than $10 on a belt that I tie around myself! I mean I really could have just gotten some thick black shoe strings and tied that around my waist but I wasn’t really thinking. I blame the excessive lidocaine.

IMG_3237

However, I have done so well in this challenge. This is one of the first times that I have ever been this committed to something like this. I am worried about when it starts to get warmer, though. I tend to buy seasonal clothing in the summer simply because it is hot. I will really have to restrain myself from purchasing that cute flowy dress from Forever 21 because I know there’s going to be one I just have to have.

img_3242

The only recommendation I have for myself is to either wear clothes that I already own for the summer months or try my hand at sewing my own flowy dresses and shorts. Of course, I can purchase from slow fashion stores as well as Target, but I tend to be a little more lenient with my purchases when summer comes around. Hopefully, I can keep up with my challenge because I am really enjoying it and loving how my wardrobe is changing into great quality pieces.
