Gifts Under $25 Gift Guide

Beauty, christmas, Lifestyle, simplicity, style, Uncategorized

Hello, Hello, Hello! As you can see from the title, I’m doing another gift guide! I’m still keeping the theme of gifts under $25 because I know not everybody out there is trying to spend an arm on a leg on a bunch of different people. However, I will be doing another gift guide for more luxurious gifts as well! So, if you haven’t checked out my last guide, go ahead and take a look at that if you want! Book Gift Guide under $25.

The first set of gifts is for the ladies and I definitely tried to create a good variety of items to choose from. I know not everyone is a makeup junkie, so I thought it would be nice to include some non-beauty related products such as slippers, Sugarfina gummy bears, and motivational pens.

Sweater Dress Outfit of the Day

Fashion, Minimalism, simplicity, Slow Fashion, style

I know this isn’t even the day that I should be posting about an outfit of the day, but I thought since I haven’t in a bit…today is a good day! I’m sure I’ve mentioned before how BIG I am on wearing sweater dresses, but if I haven’t then now you all know!

IMG_8991I really could live in a sweater dress and I’m honestly not sure why I don’t have more. I think all my wardrobe really needs are some nice sleek to the knee boots to really take my outfits (mainly sweater dresses) to their limit. I have really narrow calves so if anyone is in the same boat as me and has found some boots that actually fit then please leave a comment!

Anywho, if you’ve been reading, you’ve seen this sweater dress in a post before. I purchased this bad boy from & Other Stories and I cannot get enough. It is a bit short, but that’s kind of what I like about it. Actually, I’m just a big fan of short dresses period.

IMG_8995

My Madewell “Coatigan” is back out again and I get extremely excited to wear it. In my opinion, the sweater coat works well with this dress due to the different lengths. I normally don’t like to mix oversized with oversized, but in this instance, it does work pretty well. If only I had some sleek to the knee boots though…*sigh.*

IMG_8993

That’s my outfit for today. I don’t know if you guys like it, but I’m obsessed. Again, if there are any recommendations for some sleek to the knee boots that fit narrow calves, leave a comment! Toodles!

A Post about Mindful Shopping

Fashion, Lifestyle, mindfulness, simplicity, Slow Fashion, style

I know that I have spoken about this topic in a few other blog posts, but I would like to bring it up again. The year is slowly coming to a close and that means my slow fashion journey is too. I will most likely do a separate post on how my challenge went.

Today I want to talk about spending a little bit more on your clothing and why. Some of you know I’m kind of big on spending more for better quality clothes. Before I get started, I just want to state that – more expensive does not automatically equal better quality/sustainable/ethical. It is extremely important to do your own research of a brand/store before making any kind of purchases.

So why spend more? Well, usually but not always, you’re going to get better quality. My Loft and Madewell sweaters are way thicker and better made than my Boohoo and H&M sweaters. My mustard Loft sweater will probably take a year or so before it starts to pill or shed or just completely lose its shape. The same cannot be said for the cheaper alternatives.

Another reason to spend more is that the fit of a garment (in my experience) is far more superb. Ladies, I know depending on the store, style, wash, fabric….etc…your size can greatly vary. However, when I tend to purchase something of better quality, it actually fits! In my Lucky Brand skinny jeans, I feel like I can actually conquer the world – okay dramatic. I do feel much sleeker and pulled together whenever I wear those babies though.

Construction of a garment is a huge deal for me. I’m all right at sewing and I know how some things should look and feel. Typically, an investment piece is going to be better constructed. No holes, no botched sewing, no loose or flimsy buttons and no unmatched seams is what I usually strive for when I’m shopping.

Last but certainly not least, you spend less in the long run. It doesn’t seem like it makes much sense, does it? As a teenager and throughout my first year of college, I shopped pretty much every weekend. I would make a beeline for Papaya, Forever 21, H&M and drop $60-$100 every single time. This usually did not include shoes or accessories either. You do that math. It is far more worthwhile to spend $60-$200 every month or few months on one or two…maybe even three garments. Now I rarely shop for clothing that often and when I do, it’s usually something I’ve been saving up for or have been wanting for a long time. My rule is: If I keep coming back to it or can’t stop thinking about it, then I should buy it at some point.

By no means am I saying go out and spend your whole paycheck on something, but definitely be more mindful of your purchases and saving your money. I’m also not saying to NEVER buy from fast fashion stores or ONLY buy the more high priced items because I believe those stores and cheaper items do serve their purpose. I think there should be a healthy balance as there is with most things.

I know this was a much longer blog post, but this is a topic that I’m really passionate about and I really want to get this message out there. I would also like to write another post on when to buy fast fashion/cheaper items as well! Thanks for reading and leave a comment down below!

Fall & Winter Capsule Wardrobe

Fashion, Lifestyle, Minimalism, simplicity, Slow Fashion, style

So, it’s about that time of year again…actually it’s past that time of year but better late than never! I didn’t do a capsule wardrobe for the summer because I found it to be too tedious. However, I did do a capsule wardrobe for the fall and the winter! Just a heads up, all of the garments that are seen are not all of the garments that I have, but the main clothes that I wear on a daily basis. I have also divided my wardrobe into three separate capsules which I will go into more detail about later. Lastly, I am still adding to my wardrobe slowly, but surely.

The majority of main capsule tops are sweaters. It’s a no-brainer that it can get cold out and you need some nice comfy and cozy sweaters to bundle up in. The rest of my pieces such as my chambray shirt and the graphic tee, I layer with cardigans, jackets, and/or scarves.

Tops.png

Surprisingly, I only own three pairs of jeans (for fall/winter), which I think is plenty! I tend to wear my Lucky Brand jeans and my leggings at least 2-3 times a week. I’m working on adding some more dresses to my wardrobe, but I am super picky about the style of dress that I wear. For now, I own and wear two sweater dresses that I absolutely adore. I think I’ll be okay adding two more really good quality dresses here soon.

Bottoms & Dresses

I thought I would save my work and “going out” capsule for another post. Most of my work capsule includes some of the same items and my going out capsule is still a work in progress.

I stated earlier that these are just the clothes that I wear the most out of my wardrobe during this time of the year. The more I do capsules, the less clothing I buy every year. Many of the items seen above have been apart of my wardrobe for 3-4 years. However, I like to have options so that I don’t get sick of wearing the same thing over and over again.

Hopefully, this post made some sense to you all because I know I somewhat complicated the whole point of a capsule wardrobe. I’ve just been doing what works for me and I’m pretty happy with it!

How I Style Velvet Pants

Fashion, Lifestyle, simplicity, Slow Fashion, style

I honestly didn’t think this blog post was coming so soon, but I figured out how to style those velvet pants that I recently purchased from Loft. Now, this was my first time NOT using Polyvore, so I had to make the background transparent and all that good stuff. Don’t laugh at my pictures…I promise they’ll get better once I start doing it more.

pants.pngAnyway, let me show you all some of the styles that I came up with.

The first style I actually wore to work yesterday. I love a nice simple black shirt that can easily be dressed up or down. I got this scalloped shirt from Nordstrom B.P. a couple of years ago and it never fails me. I like being able to just add a scarf or a necklace to complete a look.

I feel like whenever I feature my chambray shirt, I say this: everyone needs a chambray shirt in their life. Whenever I have issues figuring out to wear, my chambray shirt always comes through and saves the day. I only have one, but I need at least one more in a different wash or color.

Some of you know that I have a serious deep love for cashmere. You can read my cashmere post if you want to know more about it. I love matching two fabrics together, especially two soft fabrics like velvet and cashmere. cashmere sweater

So that’s how I styled my new velvet pants. I wanted to try something new and showcase the clothing in a different way. What do you all think apart from my photo editing skills? Thanks for reading.

A Post about LOFT

Fashion, Lifestyle, Minimalism, simplicity, Slow Fashion, style

Ok, so I probably won’t be posting Fashion Fridays anymore because I recently started working a new job that is going to be taking a little bit more of my time than normal. My blogging schedule will now be Tuesday, Thursday and maybe Saturday.

Today I’m going to do a fashion post in place of Fashion Fridays and then follow up with another fashion post on Saturday kicking off Style Saturdays. What can I say…I love alliterations!

Today I want to briefly talk about Loft and how obsessed I am with their sweaters. They never fail to have really funky, colorful and comfy sweaters in their stores and online. They keep up with the trends, but always have their own spin on their items. As most of you know I’m still on my slow fashion journey until the end of the year and it just so happens that Loft falls right within my parameters!

I wrote a post not too long ago talking about stores that have great quality clothing but won’t break your bank. Loft also falls into that category of mid-range priced items.

Anywho, I recently purchased some items from Loft and I was able to use one of my friend’s employee discounts. Yay for connections!

IMG_8544.JPG

I’ve really been feeling velvet for about three years now and lately, I’ve actually been purchasing it. I got my hands on some velvet pants that I’ll mainly be wearing to work most likely. Those will be featured in a different post somewhere down the road. On my first day of my new job, I wore leggings and this very cute velvet top that has a Victorian neckline. I wasn’t sure how flattering it would be, but I LOVE! My job doesn’t require me to dress super business-y, but I would still like to keep it pretty professional. I thought the top was perfectly paired with my leggings and Lucky Brand ballet flats.

IMG_8531

The next item, which will probably end up being a fall favorite, is this mustard-colored sweater. I’ve never worn mustard before, but it is a very flattering color for all different skin tones. I also really love the trapeze cut of this sweater and the small bishop sleeves as well. I normally don’t go for this kind of cut or sleeve, but since it was this color and a better quality – I went for it.

FullSizeRender-2

The reason I didn’t picture the velvet pants yet is that I haven’t figured out what to wear them with just yet. Leave me a comment and tell me how you would wear gray velvet pants.

Thanks for reading. Check back on Thursday!

A DIY Halloween Costume

Beauty, Fashion, Lifestyle, Minimalism, simplicity, style, Uncategorized

Tomorrow is Halloween you guys and I would be excited except I already partied over the weekend. I had my little fun, but now its time to get back to work and reality. I’m not one to buy a costume nor DIY this super intricate one either. My costumes tend to be pretty last minute and I almost always own the things that I need.

This year I went as a ninja…okay, a sexy ninja. I wasn’t really going for the typical sexy look, but hey it happens! So really all I did was wear my usual going out clothes which is high waisted leggings and a crop top – black of course. I went with a sleeveless turtleneck this time. I ordered a really cheap ($7) ski mask (2pack) off of Amazon and just wore the bottom part to cover my mouth and nose. You can also just tie a bandana or forgo both and wear a hoodie. The look is pretty much complete, but if you want to, you can cut some stockings into removable sleeves. I did this and I felt that it tied the costume together.

Of course, since my eyes were the only thing showing, I went really dark with my eye makeup. I used my brand new ABH Subculture palette and did a purple, rust, and dark brown smoky eye. I also twisted my hair into four flat twists because I felt that a fro or a puff would take away from the ninja-ness.

If you don’t want to be this sexy, you can always change up the costume however you want. I did plan on wearing another costume tomorrow if I were to attend a party. I was going to wear the same outfit sans ski mask and add a tutu. I would probably just wear a long sleeve shirt versus a crop top as well. Instant ballerina. I DIY my costumes every year and I just use clothes that I already wear!

I hope you all liked this post, thanks for reading.

A Tourist in Spain Outfit of the Day

Fashion, Lifestyle, Minimalism, simplicity, Slow Fashion, style, Uncategorized

Hola everyone, I know I’ve been gone for almost a week now and I apologize for that. However, I was on vacation in Spain enjoying myself. I was really hoping while I was there I’d get some good outfit pictures, but sadly I only got one decent outfit simply because the weather was ALL over the place.

The outfit I got all of the pictures of is super touristy and I LOVE it. I’m obsessed with the top and obviously my handy dandy boyfriend jeans. At the time I was in Seville and everyone was pretty dressed down including the locals, so why not follow suit?

IMG_8159

I didn’t pack any sandals, but I did pack some basic black flip flops that…somewhat worked with this outfit. You have to make it work when you have limited options though, so I did what I could.

IMG_8173

I was standing in front of a wall to the Plaza de toros de la Real Maestranza de Cabelleria de Sevilla, which made the words on my shirt pop out!

IMG_8182

The crossbody bag that I wore throughout the whole trip is this nice gray B. Makowski bag that is literally bottomless. I can fit a small bottle of water, an umbrella, my passport and all of the regular makeup stuff I normally carry. I’m overlooking the Guadalquivir River in Sevilla.

IMG_8176

That is all for my post today. I’m so happy to be back and blogging. Next vacation I will probably blog because it doesn’t feel like work to me so why not? I hope you all enjoyed this outfit of the day post. Thanks for reading.

What’s in My Carry On Bag?

Fashion, Lifestyle, simplicity, Slow Fashion, style, Travel

Hey you guys. I’m going to be continuing with talking about my travels and all. So today I’m going to be showing you what’s in my carry on bag. Then on Friday, I’ll most likely have an outfit post like normal, however, that may change. Anyway, let’s get on with this post. I got on Polyvore today to basically simulate what garments I’m taking with me to on my trip. I seriously thought this would be easier than taking my own pictures, but boy was I wrong. Next time I travel, I will be taking my own pictures for sure! Some garments pictured are the actual garments, but some are not.

Screen Shot 2017-10-10 at 12.33.50 PM.png

Altogether, I am bringing 20 items with me, not including undies, bralettes, and bras. Let’s break that down:

6 tops (two tees, two muscle tees, one tank, one l/s shirt)

4 bottoms (leggings, boyfriend jeans, skinny jeans, shorts)

4 dresses (two tee dresses, two going out dresses)

3 pairs of shoes (boots, heels, sneakers)

3 jackets (leather jacket, cardigan, cropped denim jacket)

Currently, the weather in Spain is pretty hot during the day and then very cool at night. Specifically, in Seville, it’s been reaching about 90 degrees…so I’m going to need some wiggle room as far as my outfits go. However, I still don’t think I over packed at all. If I under packed, I can still shop while I’m there. I’m pretty content with what I’m taking, especially the black tee – let me explain.

Screen Shot 2017-10-10 at 6.21.07 PM

A black tee can go from day into night in my opinion. So those nights I’m not going out I can purchase a skirt and a nice scarf and pair it with my tee. I could even knot the tee in the front or the back to make it slightly cropped. I feel like my options are pretty endless with a simple black tee if styled correctly.

*indicates items I may purchase

Screen Shot 2017-10-10 at 6.21.21 PM

So a little bit about my favorite items that I’m bringing, now. My boyfriend jeans are a fave because they’re so easy to style! I can wear them with all the shoes I’m bringing and they can go into the night with any of my tees or muscle tees! The blue dress I love because its so simple and I can pair it with my Vans. This can also go into the night with a leather jacket and my heels or boots. I’ve been obsessed with the Au Revoir tee since I first saw it online at Madewell. I said I was going to purchase it and I finally did last week. It’s very thick but soft and breathable. This will probably be my “touristy” outfit! My Vans are a favorite because they’re Vans and I will probably be in them the most.

Screen Shot 2017-10-10 at 6.21.41 PM
I couldn’t forget about the outfit I’ll be flying in! I’ll be in gray joggers and a simple white tee and my Vans. Then I’m going to wear my cardigan so that I do not get cold on the plane. I want to be as comfortable as possible and this is probably the most comfortable outfit I own. I’m here for it! I may switch to my rose pink joggers (just as comfy) so that I can arrive in style at the very least.

That is all for this post I hope that you guys enjoy it! Thanks for reading

Bomber Jacket Outfit of the Day

Fashion, Lifestyle, simplicity, Slow Fashion, style, Uncategorized

Hey, you guys welcome back to Fashion Fridays. So I’m going to keep this post pretty quick because I let time get away from me today and I still have quite a bit to do before my trip to Spain and I want to be done with all of the errand running by the end of this weekend.

So let’s jump right into this outfit of the day post! Once again, I was in Georgetown and wanted to take pictures of my super casual outfit. Honestly, I think the majority of my outfits are pretty casual, but that’s kind of how I like it.I wore my third favorite pair of jeans from American Eagle and paired it with a cropped tank top because it got really hot that afternoon. Although, I was still pretty hot because I was in black and dark wash jeans so that didn’t help all too much.

IMG_7802

However, the main attraction of this outfit is the bomber jacket that I purchased from Boohoo. I’m the worst because I am definitely not supposed to be buying fast fashion, but this was one of those times I had to suck it up. I had to suck it up because it’s kind of perfect for days that start off really cool and end up super hot and then end up cool by nightfall.

IMG_7806

The material of the jacket is pretty thin, but it’s also pretty decent quality considering I only paid $10 for it. Something I want to bring up in a post sometime soon is mixing fast fashion with slow fashion because it is pretty doable if you know what you’re trying to achieve. I also have to admit that Boohoo tends to have some pretty decent quality items for very cheap.

IMG_7801

Anyway, I finished off the outfit with my favorite black and white vans and went on about my day. Also, the sunglasses that I feel like have been in all of my outfits are Quay’s! Alright, I have to go now! Thanks for reading!
