Fall Cleaning: The Vanity

Beauty, Decorating, diy, jewelry, Lifestyle, Minimalism, simplicity, Uncategorized

Happy Wednesday everyone! I don’t know if you all knew this, but I’m sort of a messy person. I’m not at all a dirty person, but I’m pretty dang disorganized. Somehow, some way I always end up with clutter in places where there should not be…like my vanity. All those cosmetic organizers and it still manages to get cluttered. When this happens, I know it’s time to start over and rethink how I organize.

When it comes to my vanity, I have to start ALL the way over and even change out the drawer liner. I’m even thinking about creating my own storage container for it because it’s just so cluttered all the time. I’m not sure if the JerryBox is working out too well. The brushes always come flying out every time that I turn it to find what I’m looking for.

Anyway, so far I’ve cleared some space by purchasing a corner shelf on Amazon. The main reason I got this was that my perfume and nail polishes were being directly exposed to the sun and I think this affects the formulations…especially the nail polishes.

IMG_0719

The shelf is pretty sturdy and it already fits my room décor. However, it is kind of cheap and not the greatest quality but it works and I really like it. Also, my perfumes and nail polishes now have a nice home away from the direct sunlight.

I typed a lot of this earlier in the day and then made my way to AC Moore to see what I could find to change up my vanity situation. I picked up some construction paper as my drawer liner and tried to look for some sort of container that had drawers.I got home and purged everything I didn’t need and cleaned off everything I did need with baby wipes. Surprisingly, I didn’t dread doing any of this; in fact, I found it pretty cathartic.

I went with the dark orange construction paper because it screams fall and looks great under my acrylic containers. I also found a jewelry box that wasn’t being used and am now using that to store my favorite rollerballs, liquid lipsticks, and lipglosses. The jewelry box is a nice touch because it’s mirrored, I wish I would have thought of this sooner.

I didn’t realize this post was going to end up being all about my vanity so I’m going to have to divide these fall cleaning posts into parts now. So that is all for today you all! Thanks for reading as always!

Smashbox Liquid Lipsticks

Beauty, Lifestyle, simplicity, Uncategorized

Happy Monday you guys! It’s been kind of a weird day for me…maybe it’s the Monday blues or something. However, I did want to come on here and talk about this amazing lip product I happened upon.

Well, a couple of weeks ago, I’m scrolling through Instagram and I see these swatches of liquid lipsticks from Smashbox. All of the colors were vibrant and they also had a super wide range.

IMG_6796

So, a couple of days later I went to Sephora and swatched some of the colors and was really shocked out how seriously pigmented and non-streaky these liquid lipsticks were. Of course, I only purchased one at first and tried it for the next few days and then went back and bought another color. I’m probably going to back to Sephora and buy another one if it fits in my budget this coming month.

IMG_6798The colors I purchased were True Grit, which is this gorgeous deep brown color, and Miss Conduct, that is a beautiful blue-based red. The liquid lipsticks are called Always On Liquid Lipsticks and they really are always on. I have eaten food and drank with these on and I still manage to have color on lips. Of course, if I wipe enough the color does come off, but that’s to be expected.

IMG_6799

Needless to say, I really love these liquid lipsticks and I’m taking them into fall and winter with me. I would like to get a nude color that I can line with Nightmoth or Currant (MAC lipliners.) I really recommend these babies if you’re looking for a nice liquid lipstick for the season! Thanks for reading!

Shopping at Sephora on a Budget

Beauty, Lifestyle, simplicity, skincare

Am I the only one who loves Sephora? I think not, in fact…who doesn’t love Sephora?! I think the only thing we might actually hate about Sephora is how much money you can spend when you’re in there. I think we’ve all had that moment where we go shopping for one thing and come out with more stuff than we anticipated.

However, there are ways to come out of Sephora without spending at least $100. Believe it or not, I’ve come out of the beloved store without spending over $25. Trust me, it doesn’t happen often, but it is very possible. I have come up with some tips (some no brainers, some not) that could help so you’re not spending your entire paycheck in one place. I use these tips everywhere I shop, but mainly I use them for Sephora because sometimes self-control goes out the window when makeup and skincare are involved.

  1. Save up

Well duh right? This is at the top of the list simply because it’s a huge no brainer. I’m pretty sure I don’t need to tell anybody here how to save their money (if they can) so that they can buy what they want guilt free. However, I like to save $5-$10 every week along with putting a quarter of my paycheck into savings.

  1. Go in for samples or travel kits

I never buy a full sized product unless I’ve sampled it or tried a smaller version first. It makes absolutely no sense to buy something full sized only to not like it and return it or toss it out. I personally hate returning things, but if it comes down to it then I will. If you’re especially on a budget, definitely sample it and have no shame going back in a week later to get another sample. The struggle is really real sometimes.

IMG_3827

  1. Shop with a game plan in mind

We all like to waltz into stores to “just look around,” but that doesn’t really work out too well in Sephora. So, before you go into Sephora do your research on the things that you want and go in for that specific product or products. Try your hardest not to look at anything else including the checkout trap and just walk out once you’ve purchased what you wanted. Do this at other stores as well…some of us can get really caught up in that clearance section.

  1. Shop the Sephora line

The Sephora line has really stepped up their game this year. Their masks, highlighter palettes, and liquid lipsticks are pretty amazing. I want to say that everything in the Sephora line (individually) is all under $40. You can pretty much buy your essentials with this line and come out without spending an arm and a leg.

IMG_3823

  1. Shop sparingly

Believe it or not, you actually don’t need every highlighter palette that comes out. Now, if that’s your thing then carry on and do not mind me. This tip goes hand in hand with shopping with a game plan (tip #3.) Find that eyeshadow palette that you’re going to use every color and buy just that one. Really look for your holy grail concealers and foundations and keep repurchasing them. Also, maybe consider buying lipsticks and brushes from somewhere else. I personally love the NYX Soft Matte Lip Crème’s, MAC Lipsticks, and Real Technique Brushes. I mainly purchase my foundation/concealer and skincare at Sephora and that’s about it. You’ll find that you really only go into Sephora when you need to and not just randomly. You’ll even find that some things really don’t catch your eye like they used to.

Hopefully, these were some good tips because I certainly use these all the time when shopping anywhere. I’ve saved a lot more money over the last year or two following these tips. If you have any questions then just shoot me a comment. Thanks for reading

Creating a Skincare Routine: The Basics

Beauty, Lifestyle, simplicity, skincare

Happy Friday everyone so today I’m going to be talking about skin care again. This time I’m talking about how one can come up with their own skincare routine. I get asked by my friends all the time how I know which products to choose and what works best for my skin and even why something works for my skin.

41f301a98d0b4115684ee6db0f3b926f--spa-quotes-makeup-quotes.jpg

Most of finding out, which products work best, is to simply experiment. I’ve pretty much had acne since I was 13 and have experimented with many face washes and moisturizers since. None of my advice is new whatsoever, but it doesn’t hurt to get back to the basics every once in awhile.

So, first and foremost, you have to figure out what type of skin you have. Are you oily, dry, sensitive, normal, or combination (oily + dry?) Keep in mind that you can have oily skin that’s also sensitive and dry skin that’s sensitive. Personally, I have combination skin that is sensitive and honestly, it sucks! Once you figure this part out you can pretty much shop for products that cater to your skin type.

After figuring out your skin type, shopping for products is probably going to be overwhelming yet addictive. So, try shopping for kits and asking salespeople for samples. I like going the sample route simply because skincare can be pretty expensive and you don’t want to waste your money on something that didn’t work or you didn’t like. Always save your receipts if you can’t get a sample!

fullsizeoutput_208

Now for the fun part, narrow your products down to a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. We’ll talk about serums, acids, and oils in a later post. All of those kits and samples you tried…well its time to buy the full size of the ones that worked best for you. So basically you’re going to be looking for your holy grail skincare products that you know you can always fall back on. Of course, these products will probably change because of the seasons, aging or even formula changes.

My routine includes a stick charcoal cleanser, a balancing toner and niacinamide serum and then a probiotic moisturizer. Most days I tend to go without the serum unless I’m breaking out. These products work great for my temperamental skin and are basically my skin care saviors.

IMG_3819

I do have some extra tips that have helped me so much since I’ve gotten really serious about ridding of my acne:

  • You may not need a cleanser in the morning if your skin isn’t crazy oily or dirty.
  • Always try to remove ALL of your makeup and then cleanse and do not forget to tone
  • Be as gentle as possible with your skin – sensitive or not
  • Be consistent. Try not to change up your products too often or else you won’t know what’s truly working. Also, always wash your face at night and get that makeup off before bed.

That’s my post for today. I hope this was helpful for some of you all out there. I’ll be posting a part two (and maybe three) that includes acids, serums, oils, and masks. Thanks for reading

Anastasia Moon Child Glow Kit

Beauty, Lifestyle, Uncategorized

Hey, you all! I’m so happy to posting regularly again. I feel like I’m on a whole new vibe since my birthday passed. Today I’m going to briefly be talking about the Anastasia Moon Child Glow Kit. And I say briefly because I do feel like my posts can be a little long winded at times and I’d like to practice brevity every now and then.

So let me just start off by saying how gorgeous this palette is! It’s filled with all these astronomical colors that I’m kind of head over heels for. I especially love the purples…which one of them is actually more blue than purple.

IMG_6483.JPG

I know these colors look like they are filled with just a bunch of glitter, but surprisingly enough, they are not! In fact, they are shimmery….if that makes sense. It’s more like…when the color catches the light they give off this reflective glow versus just random glitters. I have no idea if that made any sense at all…but let’s go with it.

SWATCHES

The colors are extremely pigmented especially for highlighters in my opinion. Anastasia has always been great at their glow kits, but these are just fun and create a different look in my opinion. I cannot wait to use these in my night time (maybe daytime) looks!!

FullSizeRender.jpg-1

So far I do like the palette, but I am trying to figure out how to put the colors on without the color going completely away when I am blending. I may just need a different brush to apply. This is a really great birthday present from my friend and I’m so grateful that I have it now! I really can’t wait to see what kind of “lit” looks I come up with! I’ll be sure to post about them once I figure out how to apply the colors better.

That’s all for today, thanks for reading!

Leave a comment if you have any questions about the GlowKit!

A Post About A Super Eventful Weekend

Beauty, Lifestyle, style, Uncategorized

So, this past weekend was a very eventful one. First, I went out for my birthday, then the next afternoon I participated and celebrated my good friend’s engagement.

Friday, I went to the nail salon with my friend so that she could paint her nails accordingly for the celebration and shortly after we went shopping for dresses to change into after our dances. A few hours later, we went to practice one last time before the big day.

After our last practice, we went out to D.C. and danced the night away…without getting too crazy of course. Obviously, I had to show my little birthday outfit, which turned out to very appropriate because it was SO hot out.

The next day, my friends and I got into the traditional Indian/Bengali outfits called a salwar kameez. It was an extremely long day, but it was all so worth it and so much fun! I can’t wait for the wedding!

We took professional pictures and video, which I’m so excited to see when it’s all put together! The bride to be’s outfit and makeup was so stunning that I had to snap a couple of pictures!

Once the girls and I did our choreographed dances, we changed into our dresses that were almost impossible to find at the mall. We ate dinner and then the dance floor was open to everyone…so you know what that meant.

IMG_6452.JPGFriday and Saturday were incredibly fun, but also incredibly draining. I pretty much slept all throughout Sunday and “reclaimed my time.” Once I finally got out of the bed around 3 PM, I went through all my birthday gifts. I’m so grateful for each and every one of them and can’t wait to talk about them separately in some later posts.

IMG_6461.JPG

That was my super eventful weekend and while it was so much fun…I am so glad to be back on a normal routine again so that I can blog and film more consistently. Like every year, it feels nice to be another year older and I hope for many more years! Thanks for reading as always.

Pamper Yo’ Self!

Beauty, diy, Lifestyle, simplicity, skincare

I’ve finally figured out what I want to talk about more on this here blog. I briefly mentioned it in another post not too long ago, but I figured I would just bring it up again.

Self-pampering is so important and yet we always seem to let it fall by the wayside.

It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve done a mask and part of that is because I need to repurchase my Mermaid Sea Mask from Leahlani and I haven’t gotten around to it. Also, the month of July was just a super busy one, especially the last two weeks. I also haven’t gotten my feet done in about a month and I can only change the color of the polish so many times before it just starts to look janky.

Now, self-pampering can be pretty expensive once all of it adds up like facials, massages, manicure, pedicure etc. However, don’t forget that you can “treat yo self” at home too and it doesn’t have to be expensive at all!

IMG_6329

I made a trip to Sephora yesterday and picked up the fun sheet masks that I love so much. I went ahead and got the pearl mask, but also noticed that the Sephora brand also has new clay masks! At first, I was a little confused about the price, but you can get about four uses out of the little bottle it comes in. The Sephora clay masks retail at $8 and the sheet masks retail at $5. How often does one ever come out of Sephora only having spent under $15? It is possible to not spend an arm and a leg at Sephora, but that’s for a separate blog post.

IMG_6331

The other day, I finally ordered my Herbivore Botanicals Balancing Toning Mist from Urban Outfitters and it got here so quick. I don’t like being without this stuff because to me, it really is just that good. This doesn’t have much to do with self-pampering, but since I use it as a pick me up quite often, I figured I’d mention it.

IMG_6330

My feet were just rough so today I took it upon myself to do them myself. Summer is really REALLY hard on feet because you most likely are wearing sandals or flip flops every day or pretty often. I was going to wait to get them done for my birthday, but that’s still three weeks away and I can’t leave the house with messed up feet anymore…I refuse.

I got out my big tub and filled it with hot water and dumped some rolled oats in. I waited for the oats to get mushy and stuck my feet in for about ten minutes. Don’t be like me and just put the oats directly in the water…use a giant tea bag or a sachet bag so the clean up won’t be messy. You can of course use just hot water or even lavender and/or rose petals if you’d like.

Get a pumice stone! You should be able to find most manicure and pedicure kits at your local beauty supply or even on Amazon for a decent price, but definitely, make sure they include a pumice stone.

As I’m typing this up, my feet are nice and moisturized with lotion along with socks on. You can even skip the foot soak and jump straight to the lotion and sock step after a shower. My mom taught me this trick years ago for a quick, cheap and easy pedicure without actually getting/doing a pedicure.

So, this is my self-pampering post! These are just some things that I do at home to make myself feel nice and treated without spending that much money. I hope this was a good post to read and get some ideas from. Thanks for reading.

Products I Don’t Use Anymore

Beauty, Lifestyle, Natural, simplicity, skincare, Uncategorized

It’s definitely one of those weeks where I’m not really sure what I want to talk about on this here blog. I’m still recovering from the party/BBQ my family and I had last weekend and I think I still have liquor brain or something. I’ve been getting my life organized as well and developing daily routines to keep everything simple for myself.

As I was writing this I came up with an idea for a blog post today. Who says you can’t get things done under pressure? I randomly thought about products that I don’t use anymore and said to myself “hey that would make a good blog post.” So here I go!

I feel like I’ve done a ton of reviews on here and I can’t honestly say that I still use each and every product that I have reviewed. A good portion of the products that I LOVED at the time didn’t last like I thought they would.

IMG_5379

The first one the list is the Facial Radiance Pads! Ok so I technically didn’t stop using these, I just had to take a break from them. In fact, I took a break from most of the products containing any sort of acid. I felt like acids were causing my face to be inflamed which of course caused acne. I had to make my routine a little more gentle. At some point, I will incorporate acids back in, but I may not have to apply them as often as I was.

herbivore-2

I know! I was obsessed with the Herbivore Lapis Oil. In fact, I’m still obsessed, but my skin isn’t. My super sensitive skin started to react negatively when I used the oil. It would cause redness and it hurt to touch my skin, but only in certain spots like my chin or my cheeks. I tried to incorporate it back into my routine, but the same thing would happen. However, it did not go to waste, because my mom has it at the moment.

IMG_3234

I was really excited to use this trio since I adore Josie Maran’s argan oil. What had happened was, the cleansing oil broke me out SO bad. Oddly enough, argan oil is a non- comedogenic oil so there must have been something else that irritated my skin. The sunscreen and the oil didn’t break me out though.

FullSizeRender-1

As much as I liked the Leahlani Skincare line, I just couldn’t see myself repurchasing the Honey Love or Champagne Serum again. The products specifically seemed to be more for dry skin, not sensitive combo skin. The Mermaid Sea mask will always be on my repurchasing list though!

FullSizeRender

I’m not completely sure if ever reviewed this Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser  but I’m sure I’ve mentioned it. This did a great job at brightening my skin, but it never really kept the acne to a minimal. Having glowy acne is a different approach. I may repurchase once I for real get the pimples under absolute control.

So, I guess this was a “where are they now?” type of post today. Also, these all ended up being skin care products…I guess those are the only items I actually buy. Hopefully Thursday I will have some actual material even though this wasn’t too bad! Thanks for reading.

Glossier Priming Moisturizer Review

Beauty, Lifestyle, simplicity, skincare

Ok, I totally went MIA on Wednesday and yesterday and I apologize for that. I got so caught up in planning a party and posting just completely slipped my mind. I’m not really sure how I let this product get past me because I have been using it every day!

I’m not really sure how I let this product get past me because I have been using it every day!

So I have been using the Glossier Priming Moisturizer for a few weeks now and I’m pretty much in love. The difference from when I use it and when I don’t is pretty incredible. My foundation or tinted moisturizer goes on SO much smoother and stays on longer too.

IMG_6257.JPG

Here’s a little blurb about the Priming Moisturizer: “Priming” means that it instantly brings out the best in your skin, so you have a fresh, glowing canvas that’s ready for makeup (but looks so good you might want to wear less). The ideal base for Perfecting Skin Tint, it visibly plumps skin up with moisture to create cushiony bounce and an even texture, which helps minimize the appearance of pores—minus any heavy blurring ingredients. The anti-redness complex soothes and evens skin tone, leaving a clean, dewy, balanced finish. This comforting cream allows you to layer and build up to the perfect amount of moisture depending on climate, season, or how your skin’s feeling on any given day.

IMG_6255

If you’ve ever painted on canvas before and use gesso… it’s kind of the same principle – you’re priming your canvas before creating your masterpiece. This is one of the first primers I’ve used that actually moisturizes AND primes and doesn’t leave my skin feeling strange. Pretty much any primer I’ve used in the past has dried my skin out or made it overly oily. In fact, I stopped using primer for about two years until I got my hands on this Glossier Priming Moisturizer.

primerrr.jpg

The price of this moisturizer is pretty affordable retailing at just $25 for quite a bit of product because a little really does go a long way in this instance. I like to apply this morning only before putting on my makeup. This isn’t really a good nighttime moisturizer in my opinion because it is very lightweight.

This priming moisturizer contains hyaluronic acid which tends to take moisture from its surroundings so be sure when using this product, (or any product with hyaluronic acid) that your skin is already hydrated. You MAY need to apply a hydrating mist of some sort before applying this Glossier primer or else you may notice some dryness.

IMG_6254

Overall, I am head over heels for this product! One of these days my whole skin care routine might be Glossier because I just love their whole simple skin care and make up aesthetic. I’m definitely going to be keeping this baby in my skin care arsenal and yes I will most likely be repurchasing! Thanks for reading!

Beauty & Skincare Restock

Beauty, Lifestyle, Natural, skincare

Don’t you hate it when you slowly start running out of your beauty products? It’s like you definitely know that you need to restock, but you keep putting it off for a number of various reasons. I made this mistake and now I need everything it seems…a moisturizer, some cotton pads, brow tint, and a facemask. I would also like to buy some fashion accessories as well as a new outfit for my upcoming birthday. All together, that will cost me a pretty penny.

So now, I’ll have to buy all of these items a little at a time. I also may have to forgo my normal purchases like my Boy Brow from Glossier and my Leahlani Mermaid Mask. The reason I’m sharing this with you all is that now I have to plan out my purchases and truly think about them and also I want to keep you guys updated.

I did bite the bullet and purchase a moisturizer this morning to get that out of the way. I ordered from Tula.com where they sell the new popular probiotic skincare. I thought I would give it a try, so I ordered the travel-sized version. Expect a review in the upcoming weeks!

The next step is to go into Sephora and wish myself luck and hope I don’t try to buy things I don’t even need. I’m going for those amazing Shiseido cotton pads and something nice and affordable for my eyebrows…or lack thereof. As for the facemask, I think I can get away with making my own until I get around to purchasing the Leahlani Mermaid Mask again.

So that’s all I wanted to share with you all since I have no products to review or any outfits to share. Hopefully, this was still equally as enjoyable. Thanks for reading =D.
