Finding Your Happy Place

Lifestyle, simplicity, Uncategorized

Happy Monday everyone! Last week was such a great week, but I’m always happy to start a new one. So, every once in awhile I do actually like to talk about simple living without it being about fashion or skincare and the such. I kind of just want to touch on the mindset of simplicity today…so let’s get to it.

Sometimes the majority of the time, there are outside forces that are just simply out of our control. No matter how much you try to take control of a situation, the outcome is the outcome. There are times where you just have to let go and let whatever happens, happen.

With that being said, the reason I bring this up is that a few days ago I found myself in a situation that left me pretty frustrated. Let’s just say, outside forces (people) failed to communicate with me and I went out of my way for nothing. Once upon a time, I would’ve made a huge fuss and maybe even remained upset the whole day. Instead, I went to my happy place…both mentally and physically.

IMG_6345

My happy place is pretty much any place with coffee or tea whether it be Starbucks or some cozy local coffee shop. Mentally, I just had to tell myself to let it go and not to be upset. I made my way to the nearest Starbucks and purchased a Frappuccino and sat there alone scrolling through Instagram until I felt I wasn’t upset anymore.

IMG_5484

I’m not going to lie, I slightly did still feel some type of way. However, I also felt like I kind of won because I didn’t let my frustrations take over. I then continued the rest of my day in a really good mood.

IMG_5895

Also, I realized that I do tend to try to control situations that cannot be controlled and I really need to break that habit. Finding my happy place (physical and mental) was probably one of the most simple things I have ever done and I would strongly suggest that everyone tries this. Find your happy place people and always go to it when you’re mad, frustrated, sad, or even melancholy!

That’s all today! Check back in on Wednesday…I’ll be talking about Fenty Beauty!

Fall Transition Outfit of the Day

Fashion, Lifestyle, simplicity, Slow Fashion, style

Last night, I was thinking that I’d start making Fridays fashion Friday’s since it almost fall and that’s basically the best time of the year. I very much plan on posting a ton of outfit of the days this year on this here blog as well as on my Instagram. Anywho, let’s get on with today’s outfit of the day!

IMG_6606

Last week I was in Georgetown and really wanted to take pictures and explore the area. So I wore my beloved boyfriend jeans and my cropped hoodie. I then layered the hoodie with my faux leather jacket.

IMG_6607

Jeans: Lucky Brand

Hoodie: Forever 21

Jacket: TJMaxx

Shoes: Converse

Sunglasses: NastyGal

As for the shoes, I decided to go for my classic white high-top Chucks. I also tied the whole outfit together with sunglasses. I love wearing sunglasses as a necklace as well as their intended use.

FullSizeRender.jpg

I may need to bring these Chucks back out more often because I’m kind of in love with them, but I’m also afraid to get them dirty. I think I’ll just have to suck that up and wear them anyway.

So that’s all for today. Check back in next Friday for another outfit of the day and check back in on Monday for another post!

Getting Your Tasks Done

Lifestyle, simplicity, Uncategorized

Today’s post is kind of ironic because I was so ready to talk about how to get your tasks/chores done, but here I am typing this up at almost 9pm. I didn’t charge my computer last night and it was completely dead this morning…such a fail considering this blog posts’ topic. Anyway, just because it’s late doesn’t mean I’m not going to post at all so let’s get started.

Yesterday, as I was folding my laundry I was thinking why such a tedious task was flying by. Well…I was FaceTiming my friend and we were having a great conversation. I just kind of began folding just so I wasn’t sitting there talking. Normally my clothes will sit at the end of my bed for a couple of days before I start groaning that I have to fold them.

This made me think back to the day I was cleaning my brushes and I was dancing at my bathroom sink to my very loud music. I HATE cleaning my brushes with a passion but it HAS to be done.

IMG_3852

I think you see where this post is going now…

When you have a tedious task to do, make it fun: call a friend, listen to music, do squats (lol.)

Also if you have a really huge task to be done, turn it into a bunch of smaller tasks. All too often we will overwhelm ourselves by taking on these big duties that we just kind of keep procrastinating. Seriously, do laundry twice as much so your loads aren’t so huge and you won’t have to put away nearly as many clothes. Most washers nowadays have sensors so you’re really not wasting water as with your older washers.

IMG_3851

I know there’s still a bunch of other chores that are just unavoidable and will always be tedious such as cleaning your toilet. Yea there’s really no way around that one except just don’t let it get gross in the first place. I don’t really enjoy changing my sheets either, but it also has to be done. With this chore, I just think of the end result and it’s always so worth it.

So if you’ve got some chores or tasks to be done keep these little “hacks” in mind. You won’t even realize you’re doing it until it’s done the majority of the time. I’m just here to make people’s lives more simple (including my own) even if my tips are as obvious as the nose on my face. Thanks for reading regardless.

Shopping for Better Quality Clothing

Fashion, Lifestyle, simplicity, Slow Fashion, style

Hello there, I hope everyone had a good weekend! I know I’m a little late posting today, but I was accumulating some things for this post.

So yesterday I ran across this blog post that was about trendy fast fashion. I’m a huge comments reader unfortunately and saw a comment that said us consumers should shop a little more sustainably and buy better quality clothes. Now you all know I DEFINITELY agree with this statement and was rooting for this person. However, people started to disagree with this person, saying that not everyone can afford designer clothing. Funny thing is, nobody ever mentioned designer clothing and this wasn’t the first time I’ve seen something like that.

First and foremost, shopping for better quality clothing isn’t usually expensive…depending on what your definition of expensive is. Also, shopping at a non-fast fashion place doesn’t automatically mean designer clothing. There are so many mid-range stores that one can shop in! I just wanted to take some time and post some stores that can be shopped at that are alternatives to fast fashion. Some of these stores are not necessarily sustainable, but they do sell better quality clothing.

aeo

You guys know I love AE very very much. It’s the perfect place to find semi trendy clothing that’s decent quality and not overly expensive. These clothes will typically last you a good year to three years. They are almost always having a sale too!

lulus

I’m still a pretty new Lulu’s shopper. The majority of these clothes are not the best quality, but not the worst either. However, they have a MADE IN USA section and yes the quality is much better in my opinion. Lulu’s items may last up to maybe a year or two.

madewell-logo

Ok, so I’m aware that Madewell may not be SUPER affordable, but there are items that actually are affordable as well as sale items. There are trendier items in this store as well as your staples. Madewell items should last from 2-5 years.

&otherstories

I LOVE & Other Stories, but I wouldn’t call it affordable. To shop here…you may have to save a little to get just what you want. The quality of the clothing is pretty amazing in my opinion. When I do feel like splurging a little bit, this is my go to store. I personally think clothing from here could last a lifetime depending on the garment.

everlane logo.png

If you want complete transparency and affordability (give or take some garments) then this is the place to shop. There really aren’t many trendy items here, but I would recommend shopping here for staples. The quality is pretty decent, however, the fit can be a bit strange depending on the garment.

Of course, there are many other stores to shop from that offer affordable, better quality clothing such as Target, Gap, Banana Republic, Urban Outfitters (certain brands), Asos (certain brands), thrift stores, local boutiques, and small online boutiques.

So that’s my post for today. There are other stores that aren’t necessarily fast fashion but are still pretty affordable. You don’t have to break your bank to shop for better quality and/or sustainably. Anyway, thanks for reading…check back for my post on Wednesday.

Shopping at Sephora on a Budget

Beauty, Lifestyle, simplicity, skincare

Am I the only one who loves Sephora? I think not, in fact…who doesn’t love Sephora?! I think the only thing we might actually hate about Sephora is how much money you can spend when you’re in there. I think we’ve all had that moment where we go shopping for one thing and come out with more stuff than we anticipated.

However, there are ways to come out of Sephora without spending at least $100. Believe it or not, I’ve come out of the beloved store without spending over $25. Trust me, it doesn’t happen often, but it is very possible. I have come up with some tips (some no brainers, some not) that could help so you’re not spending your entire paycheck in one place. I use these tips everywhere I shop, but mainly I use them for Sephora because sometimes self-control goes out the window when makeup and skincare are involved.

  1. Save up

Well duh right? This is at the top of the list simply because it’s a huge no brainer. I’m pretty sure I don’t need to tell anybody here how to save their money (if they can) so that they can buy what they want guilt free. However, I like to save $5-$10 every week along with putting a quarter of my paycheck into savings.

  1. Go in for samples or travel kits

I never buy a full sized product unless I’ve sampled it or tried a smaller version first. It makes absolutely no sense to buy something full sized only to not like it and return it or toss it out. I personally hate returning things, but if it comes down to it then I will. If you’re especially on a budget, definitely sample it and have no shame going back in a week later to get another sample. The struggle is really real sometimes.

IMG_3827

  1. Shop with a game plan in mind

We all like to waltz into stores to “just look around,” but that doesn’t really work out too well in Sephora. So, before you go into Sephora do your research on the things that you want and go in for that specific product or products. Try your hardest not to look at anything else including the checkout trap and just walk out once you’ve purchased what you wanted. Do this at other stores as well…some of us can get really caught up in that clearance section.

  1. Shop the Sephora line

The Sephora line has really stepped up their game this year. Their masks, highlighter palettes, and liquid lipsticks are pretty amazing. I want to say that everything in the Sephora line (individually) is all under $40. You can pretty much buy your essentials with this line and come out without spending an arm and a leg.

IMG_3823

  1. Shop sparingly

Believe it or not, you actually don’t need every highlighter palette that comes out. Now, if that’s your thing then carry on and do not mind me. This tip goes hand in hand with shopping with a game plan (tip #3.) Find that eyeshadow palette that you’re going to use every color and buy just that one. Really look for your holy grail concealers and foundations and keep repurchasing them. Also, maybe consider buying lipsticks and brushes from somewhere else. I personally love the NYX Soft Matte Lip Crème’s, MAC Lipsticks, and Real Technique Brushes. I mainly purchase my foundation/concealer and skincare at Sephora and that’s about it. You’ll find that you really only go into Sephora when you need to and not just randomly. You’ll even find that some things really don’t catch your eye like they used to.

Hopefully, these were some good tips because I certainly use these all the time when shopping anywhere. I’ve saved a lot more money over the last year or two following these tips. If you have any questions then just shoot me a comment. Thanks for reading

Future Fall Transition Purchases

Fashion, Lifestyle, Slow Fashion, Uncategorized

Summer is beginning to wrap up and honestly, I couldn’t be any happier. As some of you know, I freaking adore fall so so much! I’ve never been much of a fan of summer because I honestly feel like I can focus…that and my makeup melts off of my face. I think I may have said that same exact line in a post this time last year.

However, it isn’t fall just yet! It’s that time where we start the transition into the cool weather. This time of year used to really irritate me because I hated having my fall outfit on only to be burning up later in the day or still in shorts and be freezing by nightfall.

Anywho, in the spring/summertime, I had a post of future purchases that I wanted to make. So today I’m going to do that again but for this fall transition time. Let’s just get right into it!

Ok so I have a love/hate relationship with bodysuits because at times they can be pretty uncomfortable but they’re super versatile. I figured if I get a nice soft bodysuit from American Eagle, it would be comfortable and versatile!

Screen Shot 2017-09-05 at 3.54.58 PM

I’m obsessed with sweater dresses and I really want another one. This isn’t really a transition piece, but for those colder days, they’re pretty perfect.

Screen Shot 2017-09-05 at 3.57.43 PM

I’ve been looking for the perfect tee dress for the longest. I can wear a tee dress all time but just style them differently. I was pretty sad when I found out American Apparel was closing down, but I recently found out that they’re just online now. From what I can tell they only have basics (like they used to) but I noticed this perfect tee dress and I’m pretty sure I’m getting it very soon.

Screen Shot 2017-09-05 at 4.01.35 PM

I’m still trying to figure out why I don’t have black jeans. I bought some last year and they had this horrible smell which was probably the black dye that gives them their color. I couldn’t wear them for more than an hour and had to get rid of them. I happen to know that BDG jeans from Urban Outfitters DON’T have this horrible dye smell…so I think this will also be a for sure purchase as well.

Screen Shot 2017-09-05 at 4.03.44 PM

Denim skirts have made a serious comeback and I’m here for it. At first, I wasn’t sure, but the way they can be styled now is way better than before. I may have to turn some old jeans into a skirt here soon…

Screen Shot 2017-09-05 at 3.55.54 PM

So that’s all the clothing purchases I want to make for the transitioning weather! I may make another list for fall/winter time. That’s it for today! Thanks for reading as always!

Creating a Skincare Routine: The Basics

Beauty, Lifestyle, simplicity, skincare

Happy Friday everyone so today I’m going to be talking about skin care again. This time I’m talking about how one can come up with their own skincare routine. I get asked by my friends all the time how I know which products to choose and what works best for my skin and even why something works for my skin.

41f301a98d0b4115684ee6db0f3b926f--spa-quotes-makeup-quotes.jpg

Most of finding out, which products work best, is to simply experiment. I’ve pretty much had acne since I was 13 and have experimented with many face washes and moisturizers since. None of my advice is new whatsoever, but it doesn’t hurt to get back to the basics every once in awhile.

So, first and foremost, you have to figure out what type of skin you have. Are you oily, dry, sensitive, normal, or combination (oily + dry?) Keep in mind that you can have oily skin that’s also sensitive and dry skin that’s sensitive. Personally, I have combination skin that is sensitive and honestly, it sucks! Once you figure this part out you can pretty much shop for products that cater to your skin type.

After figuring out your skin type, shopping for products is probably going to be overwhelming yet addictive. So, try shopping for kits and asking salespeople for samples. I like going the sample route simply because skincare can be pretty expensive and you don’t want to waste your money on something that didn’t work or you didn’t like. Always save your receipts if you can’t get a sample!

fullsizeoutput_208

Now for the fun part, narrow your products down to a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. We’ll talk about serums, acids, and oils in a later post. All of those kits and samples you tried…well its time to buy the full size of the ones that worked best for you. So basically you’re going to be looking for your holy grail skincare products that you know you can always fall back on. Of course, these products will probably change because of the seasons, aging or even formula changes.

My routine includes a stick charcoal cleanser, a balancing toner and niacinamide serum and then a probiotic moisturizer. Most days I tend to go without the serum unless I’m breaking out. These products work great for my temperamental skin and are basically my skin care saviors.

IMG_3819

I do have some extra tips that have helped me so much since I’ve gotten really serious about ridding of my acne:

  • You may not need a cleanser in the morning if your skin isn’t crazy oily or dirty.
  • Always try to remove ALL of your makeup and then cleanse and do not forget to tone
  • Be as gentle as possible with your skin – sensitive or not
  • Be consistent. Try not to change up your products too often or else you won’t know what’s truly working. Also, always wash your face at night and get that makeup off before bed.

That’s my post for today. I hope this was helpful for some of you all out there. I’ll be posting a part two (and maybe three) that includes acids, serums, oils, and masks. Thanks for reading

My Holy Grail Foundation(s)

Beauty, Lifestyle, simplicity, Uncategorized

Ok so yes I have more than one Holy Grail foundation but I honestly think everyone should. Everyone should have at least a day foundation and a night foundation at the very least. Me? I have three Holy Grail foundations, all for different reasons though. Let me explain.

So I have briefly talked about my Renewed Hope in a Jar Skin Tint on here before and let me just say…I feel the same exact way about it that I felt when I first started using it. This tinted moisturizer has never disappointed especially in these hot months. Not once has it slid off of my face or gotten really oily, unless of course, I didn’t set it with powder.

fullsizeoutput_203

Even though I despise the pump the Ordinary Serum Foundation comes in…it’s still a pretty amazing foundation. It was most definitely worth the wait and of course the $6 price tag. For $6 you’d expect a foundation to be crap, but it’s better than most foundations in Sephora. I like to wear this foundation at night, usually to happy hour or on a date. This stuff does not move or slide and the coverage is medium, so it’s not too much or too little. Also, who doesn’t love a satin finish?

fullsizeoutput_202

Last but not least, my Becca Ever-Matte Shine Proof Foundation is my end all be all. I would wear this ALL the time if it wasn’t so thick and had sunscreen in it. The finish is matte and it STAYS matte. There have been times where I didn’t even set it with powder and it still stayed on all night. If you couldn’t tell, I like to wear this foundation at night when I’m going out dancing or a special event. I can always count on this foundation to cover my acne scars and do so for the entirety of the night. I will forever be purchasing this foundation until they either change the formula or discontinue it.

fullsizeoutput_204

So those are my holy grail foundations. I have no idea if they’re going to change, but I highly doubt they will anytime soon.

What is your holy grail foundation?

The Pop & Suki Camera Bag

Beauty, Fashion, Lifestyle, simplicity, Slow Fashion, style

Ok, so I never thought I’d be writing a post about a bag…like a whole post about a bag! For my birthday, my best friend got me the Pop & Suki camera bag which I have wanted for almost a year now. I was pretty close to purchasing it myself many times, but I would always put it off for something else. A couple of months ago I decided that I didn’t like the gold detailing and would prefer silver detailing instead. As soon as I saw it in person I fell in love ALL over again!

fullsizeoutput_201

Let me just say…pictures do not do this bag justice at all. If you’re on the fence about getting this bag, just do it because it is actually the coolest bag ever! I love that Pop & Suki sells different straps so that you can wear it as a fanny pack, a backpack or even a crossbody bag. They also sell accessories that you can personalize, such as key chains or charms.

IMG_6449

The quality is pretty great considering the price of the bag. The bag comes with a dust bag that comes in a box. The bag also already comes with a crossbody strap. At first, it seems like a pretty small bag, but it fits all of your essentials…as long as you don’t have big essentials.

fullsizeoutput_1fb

The personalization aspect of the company is what really won me over. Well, that and the way you can interchange the straps or add on charms and the such.

Throughout the week, I like to take the strap off and put it in my bigger tote bag so that my smaller things don’t get lost at the bottom of my bigger bag. I know it’s just like any ‘ol crossbody bag, but for some reason, there’s a certain pizzaz about this one. I think it might be the brand essence that takes this bag over the edge…the whole accessorizing an accessory aspect.

IMG_6490

The last and most obvious thing is that this bag is INCREDIBLY cute and goes with pretty much any outfit. The color my friend got for me is perfect…lavendar with pink undertones. The gold detailing doesn’t even bother me whatsoever!

I checked out the website earlier today and they have card holder…which I may have to get my hands on. Pop & Suki is really onto something and I’m in love with the brand so much!

Okay, that’s all today/tonight. Thanks for reading!

Anastasia Moon Child Glow Kit

Beauty, Lifestyle, Uncategorized

Hey, you all! I’m so happy to posting regularly again. I feel like I’m on a whole new vibe since my birthday passed. Today I’m going to briefly be talking about the Anastasia Moon Child Glow Kit. And I say briefly because I do feel like my posts can be a little long winded at times and I’d like to practice brevity every now and then.

So let me just start off by saying how gorgeous this palette is! It’s filled with all these astronomical colors that I’m kind of head over heels for. I especially love the purples…which one of them is actually more blue than purple.

IMG_6483.JPG

I know these colors look like they are filled with just a bunch of glitter, but surprisingly enough, they are not! In fact, they are shimmery….if that makes sense. It’s more like…when the color catches the light they give off this reflective glow versus just random glitters. I have no idea if that made any sense at all…but let’s go with it.

SWATCHES

The colors are extremely pigmented especially for highlighters in my opinion. Anastasia has always been great at their glow kits, but these are just fun and create a different look in my opinion. I cannot wait to use these in my night time (maybe daytime) looks!!

FullSizeRender.jpg-1

So far I do like the palette, but I am trying to figure out how to put the colors on without the color going completely away when I am blending. I may just need a different brush to apply. This is a really great birthday present from my friend and I’m so grateful that I have it now! I really can’t wait to see what kind of “lit” looks I come up with! I’ll be sure to post about them once I figure out how to apply the colors better.

That’s all for today, thanks for reading!

Leave a comment if you have any questions about the GlowKit!
