Fridaze Outfit of the Day + Hair

Today is a really good day so far! It’s a nice mild cloudy day with a slight breeze. There is nothing I love more than overcast weather…I know, I’m weird for liking slightly gloomy weather. That’s me though!

One of the reasons today is such a good day is because my hair looks pretty damn good. I even posted it on Instagram.

Today I went with a pair of dark wash blue jeans and a royal blue top along with a hooded kimono/cardigan. I’ve been gravitating towards this color blue this whole season…I’m honestly not sure why either.

I love (faux) silk tops for breezy, mild days like today. They’re so effortless and simple, but can easily be dressed up or down…I think I may need a few more in more colors – preferably neutral colors.

Well, that’s all for this wonderful Friday, I hope you guys enjoyed this week’s posts because I sure loved writing them!

Boyfriend Jeans Outfit of the Day

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a fashion post so why not now? I think the rest of the week and next Monday I will be posting just fashion…unless of course that changes. Okay now onto the outfit!

So, it’s a really mild day today, in fact, it’s pretty chilly out. I decided to where my new Lucky Brand boyfriend jeans that I am so in love with and a long sleeve black shirt. I also grabbed my new North Face rain coat and slid into my gray Zara sneakers. Obviously, I didn’t do it up with my outfit, but I LOVE this look because it’s still so chic yet comfortable.

IMG_5892

I didn’t realize how much I needed boyfriend jeans until I actually had them. I love how they can go with just about anything, including heels or a nice crop top.

IMG_5888

I also didn’t realize how essential a raincoat was until I didn’t have one for the last two years. Fun fact about me, I lose umbrellas like nobody’s business. I just purchased an umbrella about three weeks ago and I’m pretty sure it’s lost into oblivion.

I’ve worn this look so many times already and I just can’t get enough of it. I really am excited to change it up as it gets a little bit warmer. I’ll be sure to keep you guys in the loop when I do.

Mini Lulu’s Haul

Sometime this month I have a trip planned to go to Miami! I’ll still be blogging, so don’t worry! I’m celebrating my dad’s birthday as well as going on a mini vacation. I am beyond excited because I’ve never been to Miami before and I hear (and see) that it’s pretty great.

When I found out that these were the plans, my inner fashionista came out to play and damn near ruined my slow fashion journey. Don’t worry, I didn’t go out and buy a bunch of dresses, crop tops and shorts…but I did buy SOME items.

Since I am going on a little vacation and also plan to go on another one later this year, I decided to shop at Lulu’s. Lulu’s has some amazing pieces that are trendy(ish) and stylish. I’d consider shopping there for other pieces throughout the year as well.

I ordered three items that I can wear part of the year and are just my style of course! I bought two dresses and a romper that are amazing summer pieces AND vacation pieces.

The first one is this cute chambray like dress that has a triangle bodice and an empire waist. Normally I don’t really like empire waist garments, but this is a very flattering dress I must say! It’s on the shorter side and it’s backless, but hey, I’m going to MIAMI TRICK!

The next garment is a romper that has these navy blue striated vertical stripes. I adore stripes of all kind so this was a must-have! This is another backless piece that I think is the most stylish out of them all. I would pair this with some brown espadrille wedges and go to a nice lunch.

IMG_3635

Of course, I saved the best for last – a cute t-shirt like dress that I know I’m going to live in the majority of the summer. The best part about this dress is that it’s made in the USA! Technically, it’s slow fashion or at least ethical fashion! YAY! Lulu’s has a ton of items that are made in the USA – just type it in their search bar and you’ll see! This is a simple blue dress that’s sexy yet casual and has a kind of a racerback thing going on.

Those are all the pieces I purchased – now all I need is a swimsuit and I’m set! Should I go for a cute little one piece number?

I don’t know if you noticed but all the items are blue or have blue on them and that was all by accident! I guess I like blue for the summer!

Madewell Muscle Tees!

When I truly like something I hold onto it and cherish it for as long as I can. I always try to do the same thing when I’m shopping. I try my best to find items that I truly love and will hold onto for as long as possible. With all the constantly changing trends and enticing fast fashion stores, this can be extremely difficult. This is why I really like shopping at Madewell and why it has become one of my go-to fashion stores.

Even though Madewell does tend to have pretty trendy items, there’s always this one section in the store that I feel that calls out to me. Okay technically it’s not a section but the items I’ve always grabbed are in the same vicinity to each other. It’s where they sell all of their basics – t-shirts, muscle tees, tanks, and even cropped tops.

IMG_3614

I think you all know I’ve got heart eye emojis for Madewell’s Whisper Cotton muscle tees. I’m pretty much obsessed with my light olive green one that I wear non-stop. So, I took it upon myself to buy two more…they were 2 for $30 so why not?

I purchased a white and a gray muscle tee. I love muscle tees, to begin with, but for some reason, I really love this style. I’m pretty sure I like it so much because it makes “the girls” look great (lol.)

Another reason is that these tees can go with pretty much anything and can also be layered. I foresee many outfit possibilities with these babies. I’d say this was a great purchase because I know that I’ll wear them without a second thought.

IMG_3618

Before I go, I’d like to reiterate for those who don’t know that I am still on my slow fashion journey and would like to have a slow wardrobe along with a capsule wardrobe. Every time I make a purchase I usually replace at least two items that I know I probably won’t wear again or as much.

That’s all for today and this week. Thanks for reading as always my lovely readers. Until next week.

Coffee & Chill Outfit of the Day

I’m calling it now that today is just going to be a strange day. It’s cloudy and sunny at the same time and it’s threating to rain. It’s been awhile since I’ve written a fashion post. So, why not write one today!?

For some reason, it was difficult to capture a good picture today. The cloudy sunshine along with the wind was throwing off every shot. I managed to get a couple of good ones while sitting at Starbucks.

I only came here for a frappuccino and to get this blog post written and posted in a timely manner. I put on my Philosophy Renewed Hope in a Jar Skin Tint and my Tarte double-sided eyeliner. Then I threw on some leggings and my new favorite Madewell muscle tee.

IMG_5626.jpg

Initially, I had this outfit on with a denim jacket, but it looked a little juvenile when I put it all together. I also threw on my vans, which I’ve been wearing the hell out of lately. I’m probably going to need some new shoe strings by the time Summer actually hits.

I really like this for just chilling in and working from home (Starbucks) in. It’s definitely not an outfit I’d go to happy hour in. I think if I threw on some chunky heels and a cute kimono, I’d have a going out outfit.

IMG_3600.jpg

I also wanted to include these American Eagle Outfitters shorts in this post because I don’t know when I’ll make a separate post about them. I got these this weekend because it was time for some new shorts. I’m a size four now, which actually makes me happy! I’ve been working out every other day for four weeks now and I’m clearly getting some results…especially them booty gains! I’m pretty much done shopping for Summer clothing unless I find something that just really cute. I should have a post up later this week of my new fashions, so look out for that.

Thanks for reading!

Adding to my Capsule

I know I know, I didn’t post my Friday post yesterday. I should seriously consider auto posting for when I’m out and about and don’t plan on being near a computer. Anyway, today I wanted to talk about American Eagle Outfitters. It’s not weird that I want to talk about this retailer, I promise.

I didn’t really shop at American Eagle as a teen because their clothes were pretty logo intensive then and I did not like that sort of style and still don’t. It wasn’t until a few years ago I happened upon their site and saw that they kind of changed their style to more everyday basics yet somewhat trendy style. This was around the time that I started doing a capsule wardrobe and shopped there for mainly t-shirts and jeans.

AE jeans are some of the best jeans on the market. This is coming from someone who has trouble finding jeans because of my somewhat abnormally long legs and the random tushy I have. Shopping for jeans is something I never ever want to go do but I know is necessary every few years or so. Sometimes I’m a 0 and sometimes I’m a 4. It always depends on the store and if their sizes don’t vary too much. American Eagle is one of those stores where I am the same size in every rise, fit, and wash. Ultimately, it’s as if American Eagle jeans are made for people with “abnormal” bodies…not for the super curvy, yet not for the waif either.

Anyway, I recently went on their site again and noticed the style has changed a bit once again. They still have their Soft & Sexy line, but also added a new line that I am really here for. The line is called “Don’t Ask Why” and it features slightly sexy, edgy and somewhat trendy clothing. Think, off the shoulder, lace up necklines, bomber jackets and an homage to Yeezy maybe?

Of course, I bought some things and plan on buying a couple of more items from there for the warmer months. I’m forever in a bind when it comes to clothes and Summer and I think American Eagle is my answer!

Is AE slow fashion? Not really, but it isn’t fast fashion either. There happens to be some retailers out there who fall right in the middle. Are their practices ethical? Well, I’m still searching for that but AE has a page about a better world which doesn’t exactly include “100% ETHICAL” or anything of the sort. However, they’re leaning more towards sustainability, which is a step in the right direction.

It helps to have a retailer to shop at that’s not super expensive and also pretty stylish. I can’t say the same for some slow retailers out there. I actually really love the idea of shopping somewhere that’s priced somewhere in the middle ($30-$150.)

IMG_3552

So I said all of that to say that I’ve added American Eagle Outfitters to my slow fashion shopping list, especially for the Summer months. If I buy anything else from AE, I’ll be sure to post about in my next capsule update! Thanks for reading!

Adding to my Capsule

Adding Color to My Wardrobe

So, I wasn’t kidding when I said I was going to start incorporating color into my wardrobe. I will be honest, though, I am/was a little nervous about doing so, because I really want to wear the clothing that I purchase. Of course, I can just wear it, but I also want it to look good on me as well!

Yesterday, I did a little shopping and it took me at least an hour to figure out what I was going to get. I waltzed (as usual) into Madewell and saw so many freaking cute things. I felt as if I walked into a human-sized trap. Initially, I was going to get some jeans, but I figured that those could wait until I figured out my color palette as well as pieces that I would like to have in my wardrobe. That seems a little backward right? It is….that’s just how I think occasionally.

After, much deliberation and help from my father (so I don’t buy random things), I managed to come out of Madewell with two shirts and an idea of what my color palette may look like.

color palette.png

These are the colors that I think I would be happy with in my closet. I’m most definitely already sold on the dusty pink and the white because I already have those colors in my closet. However, I never thought of wearing olive green in the warmer months, but they usually put out a more muted, pastel olive green that works pretty well. Speaking of muted colors, that coral is supposed to be more of a pastel coral, which I will visually explain in a bit.

Obviously, I don’t mind adding any other colors to my wardrobe, but I don’t want to go overboard and end up never wearing them.

Now, as far as style goes, I’d like to keep that somewhat the same…slightly edgy. Classic Rocker Chic to be exact. To be completely honest, I’m trying to avoid being too Bohemian as well as too Preppy which is easy to do in the warmer seasons. Although, since my style has a bit of edginess to it, I don’t mind slipping a little bit into a Boho-esque look.

I don’t know if anybody is reading this and thinking “who puts this much thought into buying clothes?!” Me! I do! My thought process of purchasing clothes is almost cathartic and once the shopping process is all done it’s all ease from there.

Anyway! Let me show you the shirts that I bought!

IMG_3490

I’m finally putting my mannequin to good use right? Well, this is one of the tops that I bought that I think really suits me and my capsule. I can wear this with jeans both black and white and maybe a denim skirt if I ever get one. Also, this was the muted coral color I was talking about. I especially like it because it somehow makes my skin tone pop. As I was purchasing this, I was nervous as to how it was going to look and already had plans to return it. Not anymore!

IMG_3491

Okay, so this was the pastel olive green I was talking about. I pretty much knew how this was going to fit and look. I adore muscle tees for the warmer months and I feel like I need more! I can pair this with joggers, a skirt, a leather jacket, jeans and shorts of course. Nice and versatile just the way I like.

So, this is what I have so far. I’ll be sure to write another blog post when I add some other pieces later in the season. Who would have thought, I’d add color to my wardrobe?! I’m excited about this season for once and can’t wait to see how it plays out.

Thanks for reading.
