Happy Wednesday everyone! I don’t know if you all knew this, but I’m sort of a messy person. I’m not at all a dirty person, but I’m pretty dang disorganized. Somehow, some way I always end up with clutter in places where there should not be…like my vanity. All those cosmetic organizers and it still manages to get cluttered. When this happens, I know it’s time to start over and rethink how I organize.
When it comes to my vanity, I have to start ALL the way over and even change out the drawer liner. I’m even thinking about creating my own storage container for it because it’s just so cluttered all the time. I’m not sure if the JerryBox is working out too well. The brushes always come flying out every time that I turn it to find what I’m looking for.
Anyway, so far I’ve cleared some space by purchasing a corner shelf on Amazon. The main reason I got this was that my perfume and nail polishes were being directly exposed to the sun and I think this affects the formulations…especially the nail polishes.
The shelf is pretty sturdy and it already fits my room décor. However, it is kind of cheap and not the greatest quality but it works and I really like it. Also, my perfumes and nail polishes now have a nice home away from the direct sunlight.
I typed a lot of this earlier in the day and then made my way to AC Moore to see what I could find to change up my vanity situation. I picked up some construction paper as my drawer liner and tried to look for some sort of container that had drawers.I got home and purged everything I didn’t need and cleaned off everything I did need with baby wipes. Surprisingly, I didn’t dread doing any of this; in fact, I found it pretty cathartic.
I went with the dark orange construction paper because it screams fall and looks great under my acrylic containers. I also found a jewelry box that wasn’t being used and am now using that to store my favorite rollerballs, liquid lipsticks, and lipglosses. The jewelry box is a nice touch because it’s mirrored, I wish I would have thought of this sooner.
I didn’t realize this post was going to end up being all about my vanity so I’m going to have to divide these fall cleaning posts into parts now. So that is all for today you all! Thanks for reading as always!
- You start to declutter regularly
Ok so this is a no brainer, but this isn’t just a materialistic thing…it’s also a mindset as well.
- You develop routines
You’re just kind of naturally going to fall into routines whether it’s a skincare, hair care, cleaning or even a morning routine.
- You become happier (in my opinion)
Lesser things tend to bother you and you tend to stress less and less
- The way you organize changes
Most people I’ve seen who live simply (or minimally) tend to have open storage – floating shelves, clothing racks, and basically anything you can see (no lid or door)
- You get your mind right
What I mean by this is, your thinking becomes simple and you become less forgetful.
What are some things that happened when you started to live simply?
I’m so happy that it’s August again! August just so happens to be my birthday month and if I’m being honest….I get really annoying. That isn’t what this post is about, but I just wanted to mention how much I love August. Be prepared for a bunch of makeup, outfit, and hair post about how I’m going to all done up for the big day.
Anyway, I just kind of wanted to come on here and post about nothing. I am currently in the process of seriously getting my room organized. I’m looking at floating shelves, floor pillows, tulle, and just a ton of other things that will tie my room together.
I’m very excited to be doing this so that I can showcase it on this here blog. I talk about wanting to live a simple life occasionally and it’s time to start really making that happen.
Yesterday I had to purchase this cute little gem and for some reason, it has really inspired me. Yes, it’s a marble dry erase board…who doesn’t love marble? It sparked inspiration because I realized that my many walls can be utilized! Having something hanging such as a small shelf helps me to get rid of the unnecessary or find a different place for it.
So I’m not going to ramble on too much about nothing so it’s time to end this blog post now. Thank you for reading as always.
How do you get organized?
Okay as you all know I’m trying my best to organize my room. So far, I got the majority of my surfaces nice and neat. I didn’t have to throw anything away either…I just needed to find a new home for certain things.
Last week I purchased a bar cart from IKEA and it took me a minute to figure out how I was going to merchandise it, but I figured it out. All of my filming equipment (that can fit) goes on the top. Miscellaneous items go on the middle shelf, which thankfully is not that, many things. The last shelf holds all of my hair styling products, which again isn’t that much because I have finally found products that work for my hair. Obviously, this isn’t how most bar carts are used, but sometimes we just have to get creative.
Since I’ve merchandised the bar cart, my end table has cleared up. It could still use a lot of work, but I’ll declutter it eventually. I have to say, even though it isn’t the clearest surface, it is definitely more organized than it was before. I would prefer something else in place of this end table as well.
My vanity is holding up really well since I purchased the JerryBox Cosmetic Organizer. It’s kind of crazy how such a small change can make such a drastic difference when it comes to being more organized. It also helps that I don’t have a ton of makeup, but the JerryBox has really been helping out…now if I can figure out how to get my brushes to stay in there!
I’ll be coming back with a part two to organizing my room pretty soon which will probably include some decorating as well. Even though this was a short post, I hope it was still worth reading.
Ok, so I am aware that I did not post on Friday. It was a very busy weekend that did not end too well, but I’m not going to let that stop me from getting up my posts this week! I planned on posting about how my routine for my room was going, but I’ll just do that today instead.
I wrote out a daily, weekly and monthly routine to keep my room nice and tidy. So far my daily routine is working out pretty well, but I’ve kind of slacked on my weekly routine except for my laundry. Hopefully this week I can actually do all of my clean room tasks.
My daily routine is just making up my bed and getting the glasses out of my room and into the dishwasher. I have a tendency to hoard glasses for some reason and it makes my room look so not neat. I also have a tendency to not put my shoes back on their shoe rack and leave my jackets on the foot of my bed.
My weekly routine consists of vacuuming and doing my laundry from washing all the way to folding. I despise folding my clothes just like everyone else…I’m trying to find a way where it’s cathartic rather than tedious. I also included tidying up any cluttered surfaces and watering my plants. I have a devil’s ivy plant and a bamboo plant that occasionally gets neglected.
By the time I reach my monthly routine, I shouldn’t have too much to do except vacuuming under my bed and other hard to reach areas. The rest of the tasks are things I may have to do if things aren’t really decluttered. If I pick up my room throughout the day and week then I won’t have to do too much on a monthly basis. I hope that all made sense.
I also want to dedicate some time to certain spots in my room that need to be cleaned or even decorated. I may even make blog posts about that because I really just want to simplify as well as organize my whole entire room. I really think that having a cleaning/organizing routine will help to achieve this goal in the long run. Let’s hope so anyway!
Thanks for reading.
So I’m not the cleanest person…wait scratch that! I’m not the most organized person in the world. Hell, I’m not really organized at all actually. I looked to minimalism to help me get more organized but still seemed to have random clutter in random places in my bedroom. My surfaces never stay decluttered for long and I always ask myself why this is? It’s always things like nail clippers, tweezers, Tylenol, store cards, pens and the such – things that I do actually use.
The other day I noticed that one of my friends was regimented in EVERYTHING that she did as far as picking up her room. I have to admit I was a little jealous. I thought about it for a while and realized that I don’t really have a routine to keep my room organized. I’ll be honest I don’t make my bed up, I don’t vacuum every week and I don’t have a specific place for everything. That’s not to say that everything is just strewn all over my bedroom for no rhyme or reason, but sometimes I just forget to or am too lazy to put things back where they belong.
So, this means that I need to develop some sort of a routine to keep my room more organized. I mean I have a skincare routine that I stick to religiously as well as a hair care and laundry routine, so why wouldn’t I have a set cleaning/organizing routine? I’m on a mission now. I plan on making a checklist and sticking to it until my routine becomes a habit. I’m not looking to make things perfect, but I do want to make things much more organized than they are now.
I’m so serious about this, that I even started today…baby steps of course. I got up and stretched, like actual stretches. Then, I made my bed and I NEVER make my bed. Yes, I’m one of those people who thinks “I’m getting right back into later…why bother?” Making my bed made my room look instantly tidier, but I definitely need more pillows.
So with all that being said, this week I’m going to spend some time making a routine for myself to get this organization ball rolling. I think doing this will also help with my minimalism journey. I hope this works out for me because this was a long time coming but I just didn’t know how to go about it!
Thanks for reading!
Okay, so my post didn’t go up on Friday…or Saturday….or Sunday. I know I’m such a bad blogger and I need to redeem myself somehow. I guess I should tell you all how I got so sidetracked and ended up having three long days in a row.
Also, I forgot to mention in my last blog post that I made it to 100 followers on here!! I never expected anyone to actually read this blog, but am so glad and grateful that people do! I would love to do some type of a giveaway sometime soon, but I would need to work out those logistics first. So thanks for following and reading my blog you guys, I really appreciate it! Now back to the post!
Friday I was out with my parents all day. I was already a bit under the weather because I am a girl and you know how that goes…ahem. My plan was to stay in bed and watch YouTube videos all day, but that wouldn’t have been very productive. So instead I began editing a video at a coffee shop somewhere in D.C. After that, my mom and I went to Sephora and there I got my hands on the Josie Maran Argan Skincare Ritual Set. So far, I really like it! Once we got home, we crashed.
Saturday was my day to stay home and just chill. I cleaned my entire room and bathroom. I moved some furniture around and did some more video editing so that I could upload. I guess that’s my idea of chilling. My vanity is now by my window so that I have natural lighting when I do my makeup. I also filmed another video speaking on my cystic acne, which should be up today or tomorrow. I tried to get a blog post up about leggings, in fact, being pants but I got really sidetracked. Maybe that’ll be up later this week as well.
Sunday is the day all of my cleaning paid off. I moved two of my Ikea PAX closets out of my room. I wasn’t a big fan of the shoe racks that accompanied the PAX, so I decided to create a different kind of shoe closet. Once the two closets were out of my room, I put up two LACK shelves. The shelves gave me the blues because they don’t come with the screws that you need to anchor to the wall. However, the shelves made it up on the wall and the space looks amazing to me. Now I just need to get some better shoes!
So that’s what kept me away from my blog this weekend. I know I still could have gotten something up, but my mind just wasn’t working correctly. I’m glad I at least got all the stuff I needed to get done and got a post up today. Thanks for reading!
Today, I decided that I wanted to work on some home decor projects that have been on my to-do list for almost a year now. Now, I’m new at doing projects that include a visit to Home Depot or Lowe’s – even the simplest ones. Just last year, I painted a wall for the first time ever. It turned out…like how a first time painting job normally turns out.
Today, I tried my hand at spray painting. Surprisingly it was simple enough other than the fact that the wind can be erratic. So not long ago I purchased this Lazy Susan organization piece that holds all my cards, pens and other utensils. I thought it was perfect when I bought it except the color was way off. I planned to spray paint it several months ago but never got around to it until today.
Since I was already spray painting, I figured I would spray another piece in my room. So I’m in love with flowers and I adore using them as decoration. Years ago I painted a Ciroc bottle white and did that trendy marbling that was going around at the time. This created a vase for my cute little teenage room. Now that I’m an adult I spray painted it silver to match my more “grown up” taste.
My setup for spraying was pretty amateur hour, but that’s to be expected since I am an amateur at this home decor stuff. I think next time I will use a cloth tarp (or sheet) so that my decor items don’t stick to the plastic tarp.
All in all this project was lots of fun and I would most definitely do this again to other pieces – maybe some furniture that I don’t like the color of. I hope this was a good read and a change from my normal beauty posts. Thanks for reading.
So it’s that time…at least for me, it is. It’s that time that I get a bit antsy and I start randomly decluttering or maybe it’s actually not that random. I’m not just decluttering; I’m redecorating as well. A couple of weeks ago I purchased new towels to match my dark purple bathroom and new sheets that are t-shirt soft.
It was time for all of these new things because it’s been a couple of years and after awhile things start to look (and feel) kind of stale. I also purchased some marble contact paper and repurposed my nightstand. These little changes have really changed the way my bedroom and bathroom look now. In the next few weeks, I should be going on an Ikea run to purchase a couple of open storage items (LACK Shelves, Kallax etc.) that will make my room look even more polished.
As for my wardrobe, that is still a work in progress but it is slowly coming together. I could stand to get rid of certain shirts that I haven’t really worn. I could also use a pair of pants and a new pair of jeans – maybe a light wash pair? I don’t really wear skirts, but I’m all for trying them out at some point.
Two days ago I purchased some Nike sneakers that were just too cute to pass up. They can be worn for style and athletic reasons – so they’re automatically versatile. When I got back I got rid of at least four pairs of sneakers that I no longer wear anymore. I haven’t decided if I’m going to sell one of the pairs because they have been sitting in my closet for years now and are damn near in perfect condition.
Even though I am still purchasing what seems like a bunch of things, I am constantly throwing out things that I don’t need or no longer use or never used. I’m also organizing everything all the time. One thing that always helps is to always tell myself that everything should have a place that it goes back to.
All of these things I’ve been doing for a month or so have helped me to live simply and a little more minimal. I have really been attracted to things that are curated and polished in all aspects of my life. It started with my wardrobe and trickled into the rest of my room. Who knows what will be curated next?
So this is nothing like what I’ve been posting about and definitely not on my Blogmas list.
Lately, I’ve been struggling so much with my bedroom. It’s on the third floor of my parents house and it’s a pretty huge space. I know, I know… what a problem to have! You think you want a nice big space until you actually get one.
Cleaning the space is just so difficult and only gets worse as time goes on.I’ve lived by the rules of having a place for everything and minimizing my surfaces, but to be completely honest that doesn’t help at all.
The problem with my room is that it has low ceilings and NO windows – well none that can open anyway. So far, I’ve sectioned my bedroom off with an Ikea Pax closet setup. One part of my room is an actual bedroom, the other part is a wardrobe closet. There are just certain parts of the room that get messy really easily. I found some ideas online that I think will help me to get my room to be organized and cute again!
I love the poofs and the pillows and the rug! I happen to have a little couch in my room and I think if I added a decent sized rug, a couple of poofs, and/or bean bags the space would look a lot more pulled together as well as fill the open space.
I would really like to have one of these so that I can put my craft supplies (hopefully neatly) in here. This would help to keep all of my things off the floor and surfaces.
I could definitely use this Lack shelf for many things, like the collection of shot glasses I keep getting from friends whenever they go on vacation or my scented candles. I also MIGHT have a few stuffed animals that MAY be in need of a home.
I really like the idea of a rug under my bed to maximize the space. I most definitely would prefer something fuzzy, but I am open to other types of rugs as well.
I think incorporating some of these ideas in my bedroom would help to make the space look more cozy and neat. I know this post was very random, but that was something I felt I needed to get off my brain and see visually. Thanks for reading my randomness!
