Let’s Talk About Sunscreen!
It has definitely been a minute since my last skincare post. So far I like the direction this blog is going in with all of the fashion posts as well as the mindfulness content. However, I definitely have to sprinkle in some skincare posts on here every once in a while. With that being said, keep reading if you want more simple skincare tips.
Before I begin, go follow @makeupforWOC on Twitter and Instagram (don’t worry, she’s an esthetician IRL) because she has singlehandedly improved my skin through the internet with recommending just one type of product. Sunscreen. Yes, sunscreen! Now I’ve always been a sunscreen wearer, but I never ever knew that you were supposed to apply two fingertips or a nickel-sized amount of sunscreen on your skin DAILY. Also, you’re supposed to reapply every two hours. It sounds insane, right?
Well, I gave this method a try along with my normal skincare routine which includes double cleansing, hydrating with toning mists, and moisturizing with a gel-cream moisturizer. Twice a week I will add in retinol and acids…not on the same day of course. My skin is glowing like never before after incorporating two fingers worth of sunscreen every day. I know it sounds like a LOT – it is but it’s done things to my skin that I’ve been wanting for years such as:
– fades away most of my hyperpigmentation
– keeps my acne to a minimum
– makes my skin GLOW
Before learning about the two fingers method, I was using the Supergoop Glowscreen which does work but it’s a chemical sunscreen and it does irritate my eyes when applying so much. So I ordered Versed Guards up, a slightly tinted mineral sunscreen that pretty much melts into the skin.
With mineral sunscreens, especially on brown skin, you’re going to have to rub in quite a bit but eventually, it will dry down and fade into the skin. There should be more of a glow than a white or gray cast. Because I’ve been wearing sunscreen since I was 15, this was super easy for me to incorporate. However, if you’re someone who has never or rarely worn sunscreen, this may be pretty off-putting at first. Trust me though, it’s so worth it and pretty inexpensive.
Below are some photos of me applying the sunscreen prior to sun exposure. At first, it goes on like a mask and it feels like so much product. I kept rubbing in gently and eventually it faded to the gray cast we’re all trying to avoid. After about 15-20 minutes, it literally melts into my skin and even gives a nice glowy look that is almost coveted. I swear it’s sorcery and I love it!
I really just wanted to speak about the sunscreen today but I will delve deeper into my routine in a later post. Also, I want to do another post on my favorite suncare products as well! Stay tuned for a bit more skincare content!

P.S. Don’t forget to double cleanse at night!
