How to Style a Long Torso
Right along wit having broad shoulders, I have a long torso paired with long legs. Basically, I’m a string bean with feet, or at least I kind of look like one. I’m not too bothered by my body but sometimes it can be pretty hard to dress. Most people want to look longer in their clothing and most style advice out there is so that people CAN appear longer and slimmer. That advice doesn’t exactly apply to me or those with the same body type. So what’s a girl to do?
First and foremost, go check out my post about styling broad shoulders because that’s a great way to help the top half your body and make it appear slimmer by creating smaller triangles (illusions) within your outfit. Did you check it out yet? Well, those tops especially if they’re cropped are going to help style the bottom half of your body and make your torso appear a little bit shorter.
Longer crop tops are a long torso-ed girl’s best friend because high-rise/high-waist jeans or pants or shorts never appear high waist on us. Save the shorter crop tops or bralettes for the high waist skirts. For whatever reason, high waist skirts typically come up higher than pants do. If you do happen to get some jeans or pants that are low-rise then opt for a longer shirt such as a racerback or peplum top*.
- Longer crop tops
- High Waist Bottoms
- NO Low-rise*
Keep up with the same high waist (or mid waist) and throw on a bodysuit as your top. I know bodysuits can be hard to shop for if you’re longer so go for a tall size if they have it. If not, Urban Outfitters makes great bodysuits that are comfy and don’t constantly ride up. Rompers and jumpsuits are also great for our body type. However, if your jumpsuit cinches in at the waist, make sure it sits in a more natural spot – not too high but not too low.
- Bodysuits are a must
- Still with a high or mid waist
- Avoid too high or too low cinching or belting
When it comes to wearing dresses with a long torso and long legs, it’s all fair game. This is truly the time to shine. I personally think short dresses are super fun for us because our legs just keep going and going! Although, maxi dresses accentuate curves even if you’re not super curvy. Don’t even get me started on midi dresses which are the best of both worlds – especially if they’re form-fitting. Play around with different necklines to see what looks the best on your overall body shape.
- Yes to ALL types of dresses
- Play with necklines
There are definitely more ways to style a long torso, but these are the ways that I usually go about it. These ways are easy and you don’t have to buy a whole new wardrobe or new accessories to do so. Leave a comment and tell me which is your favorite way to style a long torso along with long legs!
