3 Ways to Keep Your Hands Soft & Moisturized

Raise your hand if you’ve washed your hands over a dozen times today.🖐🏾 Last week, I may have surpassed a dozen times per day because I was still going into work and we were required to wash our hands every half hour. As you can imagine, my hands are raw and pretty crusty looking and I have a feeling yours aren’t the best either. And let me guess, your cuticles are unsightly and also maybe a little crusty. Keep reading if you want to know some ways to keep your hands looking their best during this quarantine.

DIY Cuticle Oil

Ok, so I’ve been using this DIY cuticle oil for a few months now and it only contains two ingredients! I’ve also noticed when I use this regularly, my nails get stronger and grow faster as well. Ok so grab your favorite oil of choice – I chose grapeseed oil because it’s not as greasy as olive or coconut oil and grab some tea tree oil too! Be sure the tea tree oil you have or buy is pure because you want the antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial properties. I recommend Aura Cacia or Desert Essence – these can be found at most grocery stores. So, fill a squeeze or spray bottle up with your favorite oil and then add 10-20 drops of tea tree oil. The amount of tea tree oil does depend on how much carrier oil you use. I think you guys know how overpowering tea tree oil is, so definitely be cautious and dilute, dilute, dilute.

DIY Vaseline Lather

This is an old trick that my mom taught me when I was just a kid. This kept both my hands and feet super soft, and still does to this day! Grab any lotion of choice and a Vaseline…yes Vaseline. I know Vaseline is frowned upon these days due to it being petroleum jelly, but it’s going on your hands and these are getting washed all throughout the day. So yeah, you guessed it – go ahead and mix your lotion and Vaseline together and lather up your hands with the mixture. This might sound weird but find some gloves or socks and put them over your hands. I definitely recommend doing this at night so you can just go to sleep. In the morning, your hands should be really soft and pretty moisturized as well.

DIY “Natural” Lather

Okay, so maybe you’re grossed out by the Vaseline lather…I get it. One of my favorite natural butters is mango butter because it’s not greasy like shea butter. However, if you only have shea butter then go right ahead and use that. You can mix this in your lotion or even with a carrier oil. Now you have a more natural lather without Vaseline.  Don’t forget to cover your hands with gloves or socks! Again, your hands should be soft and most definitely moisturized.

By the end of this quarantine, your hands and cuticles should still be intact and thoroughly moisturized. Also, try to avoid using too much hand sanitizer because the alcohol most definitely rips your skin apart. Besides, washing your hands is way more effective than sanitizer anyway. Don’t forget, you can also apply all three of these DIY’s to your feet as well! Thanks for reading and leave a comment if you have some tricks for smooth hands too.
