My Anti New Year Resolutions, Resolutions
Happy New Year everyone! The holiday season has finally come to a close and I’m actually kind of happy because I can now focus on my blog without any interruptions other than my job. I hope everyone enjoyed bringing in the New Year with his or her loved ones.
I’m not the biggest resolution person simply because I believe that a resolution can be made any time of the year. The change in years doesn’t automatically mean things are suddenly different. Also, we tend to make these large goals for ourselves that are almost always unobtainable. To be fair, most goals we make in general are pretty large goals. It’s easy to say “Save $1,000 this year” and not do it, whereas tricking your brain and saying “save $20 a week this year,” and actually doing it. For those who are not great at math like me: 52 (weeks in a year) x $20 = $1,040. For me, I have to trick myself even further and have an actual piggy bank because if I see and have access to my funds then I automatically want to spend it. That’s for another blog post though…
As stated earlier, I am kind of anti-New Year’s resolution, but there are still some goals that I would like to accomplish this year period. I had to be clever about this because I have to trick myself for some reason. So, instead of broad, large goals, I made them small and super obtainable! Keep reading if you’re curious.
Goal #1 – Keep my room clean
I struggled so badly with keeping my room organized last year. I figured out that a lot of it was just things not having a home and not having enough storage. Also, I do have a lot of stuff that I just don’t need. I realized when I received one of my Christmas gifts that I have entirely too many backpacks and duffel bags. I don’t even like duffel bags. All I need is maybe two cute backpacks, one weekender duffel, and a carry on suitcase. I know this goal seems pretty big, but I’m breaking it down by focusing on ONE area for a week. That will be the initial clean up and then maintenance on the area. I don’t plan on doing updates about this but once my room is fully complete, I do plan on taking photos! I have so many home projects I plan on doing and can’t wait to get started!
Goal #2 – Wake up earlier
Apparently really productive people wake up early. I already wake up at 8AM but I’d like to wake up maybe an hour earlier. Now, this all depends on the time I go to bed and if I sleep through the night. I don’t plan to just start randomly waking up at 7AM either; I want to gradually make my way there in increments of five minutes. So far, I’m already at 7:44 because I can never just have that extra minute. The question now is what will I do with that extra hour?
Goal #3 – Get more blog posts up
Believe it or not, I spend the majority of my time writing…mostly brain dumps and interactions but writing. I do write down a lot of my blog post ideas but I just never get around to writing the full post until it’s kind of too late or I spend too much time editing, trying to make my words sound perfect. One of the things I have started doing, even last year, is typing up a full blog post and just saving it for later. All I have to do is edit and add pictures. This is also known as batching your posts in the blogger world. This will probably be one of my more challenging goals this year because it is really hard for me to sit down and just pump out multiple posts in one or two sittings. Wish me luck on this one.
Goal #4 – “Meal Prepping” my Hair Care Routine
As most of you know, I have naturally curly hair that has the tendency to get pretty dry. Sometime last year, I found out about Ayurveda hair care. I loved making my own recipes and really loved the results. However, mixing up a batch can be really time-consuming and it is really easy to fall off your game. Since you don’t add any preservatives to your batches, they go bad after a few days to a week. Come to find out, you can freeze the ingredients! So, I will start “meal prepping” my hair care routine a month (or so) in advance since I only wash my hair once a week. Yes, the process takes about an hour, but only having to do it once a month and then just melting the ingredients takes so much time off of my wash day.
I added some extra little goals that I think everyone can participate in since the main ones are curated to my life. They’re all environmentally friendly too!
- Purchase eco-friendly Tupperware, Ziplock Bags, and Saran Wrap
- Start using No Rush Shipping on Amazon to minimize packaging
- Stop forgetting reusable shopping bags
- Purchase a reusable straw or don’t use a straw at all
Until next time,
ChelsiKay
