A Post about Tulum, Mexico

Yes, I know that I have been away and that is truly just because I have actually been away. I had my short trip to New York and turned around and flew out to Mexico to celebrate my birthday. When I returned home, I was a little sick and there was quite a bit of recuperation that needed to be had. So here I am about to give you all the tea on Mexico and a bit of a comprehensive guide on what to do or at least what they don’t tell you. Keep on reading if you’re ready for a lengthy blog post.

I’ve had the travel bug since I returned back home from Spain last October and I’ve tried to plan trips throughout the year, but they always fell through, unfortunately. I have known since about February of this year that I wanted needed to go to Tulum, Mexico at some point. I plastered it on my vision board as one of my biggest goals and binged watched almost every YouTube video that mentioned it. It was the middle of April that I knew for a fact that I was going to Tulum for my 25th birthday. Of course, there were some roadblocks, but even if I had to go alone or just for 48 hours…I was determined to go. I manifested this trip and exactly three days before my birthday; there I was in Tulum, for the rest of the week with my best friend.

Tulum is one of those places that you talk about for years and that you end up revisiting at least two more times. It’s the “Hakuna Matata” that us 90 kids have been looking for since we’ve first seen the Lion King. Even at its worse, Tulum is the fulfillment of wanderlust. I definitely just got a little emotional about this place…again, but it was THAT awesome.

There is just so much to do, so much to eat and so so much tequila and mescal to drink. You can dance to disco in the jungle on Friday nights or sip super bomb and cheap mojitos downtown (Batey’s) to live music on any given night. During the day, of course, you can go to the beach or even better, a cenote – a beautiful swimming hole that nature made itself. You can even bum it at your hotel with a bottle of tequila, trust me nobody is going to judge you AT ALL!

Almost every blog I read said the exact same thing on where to eat and what to do to. Being me, I had to stray away from all the mainstream places – it’s the hipster in me I guess. I stayed downtown which was pretty awesome because I felt like a local even though I didn’t look like one. I visited the same restaurant for the whole week I was there because my bestie and I kept getting great service and made friends with the bartenders. Oddly enough, there’s a huge Argentinian influence there, which I honestly never heard about until I went. Estancia Jujena (an Argentinian restaurant) was the place we kept going to and they were just so friendly to us the whole week.

Ok, I did end up going to a few mainstream places because they’re just too Instagram worthy to pass up. I’m sure most of you all have heard of Matcha Mama. It a vegan’s paradise of acai bowls, fruit juices, smoothies and cold brew. E V E R Y T H I N G is vegan and fresh. If you don’t make it downtown an alternative is Raw Love – also vegan and also all over Instagram.

The other mainstream place I ended up at was Gitano. The disco restaurant/bar in the jungle that basically gave me so much life. I went here on my actual birthday and was over the moon about this place. The interior/exterior, the candles, the beautiful bartenders, and the disco ball…it was all just so much to take in and felt so unreal. To top it off it was the first place that had small plates which are right up my ally AND it was in the middle of the jungle!

The cenote of choice for this trip was Grand Cenote because it was super close to our hotel. The first time we went there, we actually rode our cute bikes there because exercise and living like a local! I can’t write enough words about the cenote so here are some pretty pictures featuring me!

I spent six days in this beautiful paradise and I feel like my words are just not enough to express it. I feel like I could write about this place in at least five separate blog posts, however, I have so much other content I want to share with you guys. Before I sign off, I do want to show you some of the outfits I wore while on this trip because I haven’t posted a fashion post in FOREVER.
