The Monochromatic Outfit of the Day

Fashion, Lifestyle, simplicity, Slow Fashion

Normally I don’t ever get the Monday Blues, but today I am just still so tired from the weekend. I didn’t even do much except go out to dinner with my girls and hang out with my boyfriend. I apologize if this post isn’t as energetic as my others. With that being said, Happy Monday everybody!

I really really love the color gray. When you think about it gray is such a dull and pretty boring color, but for some reason I just love it. The majority of my sweaters are gray with the exception of maybe two or three.

I think I just find gray to be a really classic sexy color that makes an outfit look so sophisticated. I’m happy to say that I’ve come a long way from wearing only black. I’m aware that gray is just a light version of black, but hey, baby steps right? I don’t think I’ll ever get out of the habit of wearing neutral colors because they’re just too easy to dress and make life much more simple.

The other day I washed my cashmere sweater by hand in this lanolin soap that I purchased off of Amazon. As most of you know, I wear the hell out of this sweater due to its softness and comfort. I didn’t think this sweater could get any softer, but once I washed it in that soap – the softness factor went way up.

My sweater doesn’t cover my booty when I wear leggings. I know that for some, this is a big turn off when it comes to styling an outfit. I think most of you know that I live in leggings and wear them whether my shirt covers “things” or not. The leggings I wear are thick enough to not show any panty lines or even unwanted protrusions – so I’m really not tripping at all. That’s really for another post, though. 🙂

My Sweater Coat. My Coatigan. My Longline Sweater. Whatever you want to call it, it is also gray and extremely stylish in my opinion. I’m all grayed out. Yes, that’s my little Yorkie-Poodle who is actually not a puppy, but 11 years old. If someone wants pictures taken of them, then she is going to find a way to photo bomb you. It’s really all about her and would you look at that…she’s gray too!

So that’s another fashion post, which is so rare for me! Check back Wednesday for another skin care and/or beauty post! Thanks for reading

Home Decor Project for the Amateur

Decorating, diy, Lifestyle

Today, I decided that I wanted to work on some home decor projects that have been on my to-do list for almost a year now. Now, I’m new at doing projects that include a visit to Home Depot or Lowe’s – even the simplest ones. Just last year, I painted a wall for the first time ever. It turned out…like how a first time painting job normally turns out.

Today, I tried my hand at spray painting. Surprisingly it was simple enough other than the fact that the wind can be erratic. So not long ago I purchased this Lazy Susan organization piece that holds all my cards, pens and other utensils. I thought it was perfect when I bought it except the color was way off. I planned to spray paint it several months ago but never got around to it until today.

Since I was already spray painting, I figured I would spray another piece in my room. So I’m in love with flowers and I adore using them as decoration. Years ago I painted a Ciroc bottle white and did that trendy marbling that was going around at the time. This created a vase for my cute little teenage room. Now that I’m an adult I spray painted it silver to match my more “grown up” taste.

My setup for spraying was pretty amateur hour, but that’s to be expected since I am an amateur at this home decor stuff. I think next time I will use a cloth tarp (or sheet) so that my decor items don’t stick to the plastic tarp.

All in all this project was lots of fun and I would most definitely do this again to other pieces – maybe some furniture that I don’t like the color of. I hope this was a good read and a change from my normal beauty posts. Thanks for reading.

OOTD: Relaxed & Casual

Fashion, Lifestyle, Slow Fashion, style

Today I had a dentist appointment to fill in some cavities. The appointment went really well, but man was my dentist heavy handed with the lidocaine. As a kid, I could easily go back to school after an appointment and now I’m out of commission for the rest of the day. Somehow, I managed not to pass out today as my mom and I walked around Georgetown and took pictures.

I get so nervous before doctor’s or dentist’s appointments, so I was sure to dress as comfortable as possible. Yesterday I saw this cute linen top inside of Gap and HAD to have it. I think of Gap as not quite fast fashion, but not quite slow fashion. I have so many ideas on how to wear this linen top when the days are warm. Lately, it’s been pretty hard to tell if it’s going to be warm or not so I’m always sure to layer up.

I’m really glad I bought this shirt in the flax color (light beige) instead of black or white. The top is soft and breathable and is going to be a must wear on super hot summer days.

Today, I paired it with my American Apparel winter leggings and my Banana Republic military coat. I would have layered an oversized sweater over it since it was pretty chilly in the morning, but I don’t have an oversized sweater sadly. An oversized sweater may have to be my next purchase if it doesn’t start warming up too quickly.

I wanted to show this outfit with and without the belt because it creates two different looks. If I was wearing shorts with the top then I would probably opt for the belt because that look is super chic. Isn’t it strange how a simple little accessory can completely take an outfit to the next level or completely ruin one?

Now that this post is up and I’m finally home I can relax after my oh so nerve racking appointment. Thanks for reading as always!

Back to Basics: Powder Foundation

Beauty, Natural, simplicity, skincare

I’m really not sure if I have a blog post already called back to basics. I wouldn’t be surprised if I did though because I somehow always end up going back to the basics. It’s awfully funny how I end up down a rabbit hole only to end up back where I started.

So, if you read my posts regularly then you know that I’ve been using the Drunk Elephant T.L.C Framboos™ Glycolic Night Serum to help keep my acne at bay. I feel like a silly goose for not photographing my progress, but I promise it is working like a dream. All that is left are my dark hyperpigmentation spots and teeny tiny little pimples on my chin and jaw area. I’m working on doing a review and should be up in the next few days.

Since I have been using the glycolic acid on my face, my makeup hasn’t been sitting on my skin just the way I like it. Also, my Tom Ford foundation has felt so slick and never stays on as long as it used to. It could be because I’m using glycolic acid or the foundation just doesn’t work anymore. It wouldn’t be the first time a foundation has quit on me.

I noticed that my mom’s foundation was flawless and stayed on all freaking day with minimal touch ups. Naturally, I asked her what foundation she was wearing and she said Bare Minerals Matte foundation. You know, that foundation you used when you first started wearing make up because liquid foundation was just way too freaking intimidating. Okay maybe that’s not everybody’s story, but it certainly is mine.

When I asked her, we were on our way to the mall which meant we were on our way to Sephora, Lush and Olivia Macaron. Obviously, I went to Sephora and got the foundation and naturally I was a little skeptical because I hadn’t used it for so long and it didn’t work that well in the past.

I was pretty shocked when I wore it the next day ALL day without any touch ups. I don’t know if the formula is different or if I’m just more conscious of my skincare. When I was using the foundation before, I was a hell of a lot more oily and using products that stripped all the oils from my skin causing it to produce even more oil. Also, the foundation doesn’t transfer nearly as much as it used to which is a huge plus in my book.

I remember thinking that liquid foundation was intimidating, but switching back to powder was a little weird and surprisingly came with a re-learning curve. However, powder goes on so much easier and doesn’t leave a sticky residue when you first apply it. It is also supposedly better to wear mineral foundation when you’re using acids on your skin – so yet another plus!

I have to say I never ever thought I would go back to using Bare Minerals powder foundation. It does go along with my simple lifestyle so I’m pretty much sold as far as simplicity goes. That’s all for today. Check back Wednesday for another cool post.

New Interesting Reads

Lifestyle, Minimalism, simplicity

For Valentine’s Day, from my parents, I received some flowers and a book. This is proof that the most loved yet hated holiday isn’t about romance, but love in general. Yesterday I even celebrated Galentine’s Day with my lovely girlfriends. So, even if you don’t have a boo you always ALWAYS have family and friends to celebrate any holiday with.

Anyway, this post isn’t about Valentine’s Day since that was so long ago now. The book I received from my mom was a book about Hygge (Hoo-Ga) which is a Danish word that means…well a bunch of different things. The word apparently has no English translation but “coziness” is probably the best description of what hygge means.

Of course, I thought the book seemed pretty strange at first because I didn’t know what to expect. When I began reading it, I found it to be pretty comical because I already practice some of the things they preach. For example, there’s a spot on the couch in my house that I have claimed. It’s right next to a window complete with plush pillows and blankets. I also layer my clothing like a pro because I am forever cold even when it’s warm out. During the summer months, inside buildings, it’s always freezing – so I’m always sure to carry a light cardigan in my bag.

I am enjoying this read so much, that I went out to Barnes and Noble and got another Hygge book. I haven’t started reading this one yet, but I’m sure I will enjoy it just as much. I did do a quick flip through and noticed that there are some amazing pictures inside to give more of a visual of what hygge is.

I know this concept isn’t new, however, it is new to me and I love to share my discoveries with you all. Feel free to share any thoughts you have in the comments. Thanks for reading!

I’m A Lazy Girl

Beauty, Fashion, Lifestyle, Minimalism, simplicity, style

I am such a lazy girl.

So of course, I’m not actually lazy but on the outside looking in, I most definitely am.

Not in the sense where I just sit around and do nothing all day, but in the sense that I’m someone who does the bare minimum within my daily life. There are very few exceptions to the way I am, but even then I’m still pretty lazy. Pretty much everything I do is understated and simple and I’m extremely content with that.11219711_10153405732684188_1580511268425686043_n.jpg

It’s not so much that I don’t put in any effort into anything I do, but I am definitely not a perfectionist and think mistakes or flaws is what makes something unique. For instance, I’m a naturally curly girl and I don’t care that my hair gets frizzy because I can always throw it up into a big ‘ol puff and go on about my day. My makeup? Yeah, I’m okay with, foundation, cat eye, and mascara. I both hate and admire other girls who take 30+ minutes filling in their eyebrows.

Even some of my fashion choices are a bit lazy…I wouldn’t dare walk out of the house in some sweats or anything but I could theoretically live in a little black dress that can be mixed and matched with different jackets or layers…at least for when I’m going out for the night. I’ve been told that my fashion sense was pretty basic and it didn’t sit with me too well because I thought I dressed pretty pulled together and sophisticated.

Don’t get me started on fitness. I have a love-hate relationship with working out. It’s no secret that I’m a thin girl, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting to be more fit. I don’t spend more than thirty minutes working out usually because I get bored pretty quickly doing the same thing over and over again. My choice of working out almost always ends up me dancing to all my favorite music mixed in with some squatting or donkey kicks.

I don’t speak much about my Bullet Journal, but that’s also lazy. I think a BUJO is meant to be pretty lazy though and not have too much going on. Comment if you’d like for me to blog about my BUJO every now and then.

The reason I say lazy instead of simple, in this case, is because I also hardly ever rush. I think of myself as a productive sloth. Whenever I’m with friends or certain family members I find that they’re always rushing to get from point A to point B. I’ve been guilty of it myself too. I could be speed walking down the street (on the sidewalk) without even realizing it.

So like I said, I don’t actually mean I’m lazy but I do find that I embrace the unfinished and the imperfect maybe more than I should. However, it is who I am and I love it!

I hope everyone had an amazing Valentine’s Day and spent it with their loved ones. Thanks for reading everyone.

I Found The Perfect Top – Vlog

Fashion, Lifestyle, simplicity, Slow Fashion, style

You guys know about this top…or at least some of you do. I purchased this really cute top from & Other Stories the weekend before last and instantly fell in love. It’s literally just a black turtleneck crop top, but it’s soft and super thick but not sweater thick.

Of course, I only wear this top with jeans but I think with the right pair of leggings or pants, it would still look great. I feel like I can wear this top with just about anything and be so stylish. How is it fabric sewn into a garment can bring me such happiness? I promise I’ll do a separate blog post featuring this top at some point!

A few posts ago, I talked about the & Other Stories Grand Opening in Georgetown. Well, it just so happens that I got a little bit of footage of the store! I also got footage of a local fashion show that I went to. I pretty much made a vlog out of it and posted it on YouTube a few days ago. So, I thought I would post the vlog here so you can see the top, the fashion show and all of the other fun things I did.

I hope you all enjoy the video and as always thanks for reading. I’ll be posting more later in the week!

Early Spring Cleaning?

Decorating, Fashion, Lifestyle, Minimalism, simplicity

So it’s that time…at least for me, it is. It’s that time that I get a bit antsy and I start randomly decluttering or maybe it’s actually not that random. I’m not just decluttering; I’m redecorating as well. A couple of weeks ago I purchased new towels to match my dark purple bathroom and new sheets that are t-shirt soft.

It was time for all of these new things because it’s been a couple of years and after awhile things start to look (and feel) kind of stale. I also purchased some marble contact paper and repurposed my nightstand. These little changes have really changed the way my bedroom and bathroom look now. In the next few weeks, I should be going on an Ikea run to purchase a couple of open storage items (LACK Shelves, Kallax etc.) that will make my room look even more polished.

As for my wardrobe, that is still a work in progress but it is slowly coming together. I could stand to get rid of certain shirts that I haven’t really worn. I could also use a pair of pants and a new pair of jeans – maybe a light wash pair? I don’t really wear skirts, but I’m all for trying them out at some point.

Two days ago I purchased some Nike sneakers that were just too cute to pass up. They can be worn for style and athletic reasons – so they’re automatically versatile. When I got back I got rid of at least four pairs of sneakers that I no longer wear anymore. I haven’t decided if I’m going to sell one of the pairs because they have been sitting in my closet for years now and are damn near in perfect condition.

Even though I am still purchasing what seems like a bunch of things, I am constantly throwing out things that I don’t need or no longer use or never used. I’m also organizing everything all the time. One thing that always helps is to always tell myself that everything should have a place that it goes back to.

All of these things I’ve been doing for a month or so have helped me to live simply and a little more minimal. I have really been attracted to things that are curated and polished in all aspects of my life. It started with my wardrobe and trickled into the rest of my room. Who knows what will be curated next?

Drunk Elephant T.L.C Framboos™ Night Serum – Skin Savior?

Beauty, Natural, simplicity, skincare

Lately, I’ve been breaking out pretty badly again and it’s really been giving me the blues. I’ll typically use my Herbivore Blue Tansy Mask or May Lindstrom: The Problem Solver (that I temporarily stole from my mom) along with my usual skincare routine to keep the acne at bay. I love my little simple skincare routine and I’m glad I found products that work well. However, sometimes I need a little extra push to get this reoccurring acne to go away…at least for more than a few days.

I remembered during Christmastime I purchased a try-me kit from Drunk Elephant at Sephora. I got the nightbright which contains the T.L.C Framboos Glycolic Night Serum and Virgin Marula Facial Oil. I’ll be completely honest, though, I’m not at all a fan of the Marula Oil but I do adore the Framboos Glycolic Serum. Anyway, I used these for a few nights during Christmastime and then completely forgot about it.

Fast-forward two months, I used the Framboos Glycolic Night Serum last night and my skin did almost a 180. Glycolic Acid is a chemical exfoliator that gets rid of dead skin cells and supports cellular turnover. In other words, it helps with your acne and other issues you may be having with your skin. What I really like about the Framboos Glycolic Night Serum is that it contains cactus extract which helps prevent inflammation when using topical AHA’s such as glycolic acid. AHA’s can cause mild skin irritation so that extra plant extract helps to prevent the irritation.

The first time I ever used this chemical exfoliator, my face started to bubble up which freaked me out. Then I realized that that was a sign that the product was working. I did wake up with skin that appeared brighter and I’m not exactly sure why or how I forgot about this gem.

With all of that being said, I will keep using this for the next few nights to see if it truly works and will probably do an update sometime soon. Feel free to comment if you have any questions!

& Other Stories Georgetown Grand Opening

Fashion, simplicity, Slow Fashion, style

So I was really supposed to post Friday but it ended up being a really busy day. My initial plan was to get up and go to the Tyson’s Corner Mall and then go meet my boyfriend so that we could celebrate our friends birthday later that night.

What ended up happening was my mom and I went to Georgetown to attend the & Other Stories grand opening and from there, things just became really busy. I haven’t really shopped much on the & Other Stories website but my mom has and she has gotten some really good quality pieces from there.

If you haven’t heard of & Other Stories they’re a European based store that recently made its way stateside. They’re actually owned by H&M Group which of course made me a bit skeptical. How could & Other Stories have all these amazing quality fashion pieces and accessories and be the little sister of H&M? Well, actually that’s not surprising because big companies have to tap into all markets right? H&M Group also owns Cos, which I didn’t even know about until I did some research. Any who & Other Stories prides themselves in doing everything in-house and being shoppable for everyone.

So I ended up going to the grand opening and getting this really cute top and a cute minimal ring. Both were pretty impulsive purchases but the top I just had to have! It goes so well with my capsule wardrobe and my aesthetic as a whole. The quality is pretty amazing and should be because it wasn’t the cheapest. I’d never pay more than $60 for a top normally, but like I said I had to have it! I’m usually pretty transparent on here so if you’re wondering…it was $85 which to some is a pretty penny and to others is nothing.

Excuse these pictures, I don’t have my actual camera and I’m not around any good lighting. There will be better pictures very soon.

I know you all are thinking “that’s just a basic black top.” No, If you guys could just feel how soft and thick this top is then you’ll understand. It’s also one of the most stylish pieces I own now next to my Madewell Sweater Coat. I can’t wait to style it in the next few days…I already have some ideas.

That’s all for this post. Thanks for reading as always.
