Blogmas Day 6: How to Get out of a Winter Funk

Even though the calendar isn’t saying it’s officially winter the weather is most definitely saying otherwise. Today we got our first crappy gloomy winter weather. Not only was it freezing cold, but also it was pouring rain. There is nothing I dislike more than a cold rainy day – the least it could do is snow if it’s going to be cold. When it gets like this, it is incredibly easy to slip right on into a funk. It is almost like every single day is a Monday after a weekend of straight partying. Here are some tips I live by when my mood is feeling a bit under the weather…pun intended.

  1. Embrace the funk

You wake up and you’re just not feeling it…what can you do? Own the funk! If you can, take the day off or work from home or plan out what you’ll do when you get back home. Take a nice hot oatmeal bath and light some pumpkin spice candles. Make some hot cocoa with extra marshmallows and maybe spike it with some Baileys. Slip into your coziest pajamas and Netflix and chill the rest of (or the whole) day.

  1. Jam out

Sometimes, all you need to do is listen to your favorite songs to get you going. This is probably the number one thing that can get my spirits up. Oh and don’t forget to dance! Dancing is just super fun exercise, which is known to get you out of a funk.

  1. Surround yourself with your favorite people

I always have to remember that I’m not alone in this life and surround myself with people who make me smile and laugh. Go ahead and plan a little kickback with some snacks and booze and invite your closest friends.

  1. Light it up

The weather actually does have a pretty big impact on our mood and emotions. Try investing in a mood or ambient light. Apparently these lights have the ability to create a colorful atmosphere in your home and boost your mood. Pretty cool right?

  1. Get out of the house

Maybe it already started snowing where you are and you have a bit of cabin fever. If you’re snowed in, go play in the snow and embrace your inner child. If you actually can leave, then go to your nearest coffee shop or get some early Christmas shopping done.

That’s all today you guys. I’ll try to make tomorrow’s Blogmas post more interesting. I guess I’m in a funk myself today and should follow my own tips. Thanks for reading everyone!
